boron nitride questions

just been reading what little i could find on boron nitride -- i have used moly in the past but do not use it in my newer benchrest rifles but would like to learn more on on it -- where can you get it and how do you apply it and how much difference it makes

Unless you live in the desert, you're probably wise to avoid the molybdenum disulfide. I don't have any direct experience in using boron nitride in a rifle barrel, but it would seen that compound would be less likely to form acids in the barrel. So far, I have not seen any data that gives me any hope for an applied coating of boron nitride that will reduce friction in a barrel as moly can do. I have seen some claims for the above, using barrels or barrel inserts, made with the boron compounds, or coating using special techniques and equipment not available to the individual shooter. This is not to say that such do not exist or will exist. I found this article to be of interest, though, as you might.
