BORE WORMS-WORM TRACKS

I have researched the subject and have come to a conclusion---these tracks are made by condensation. This is a Krieger SS barrel in 221 FB, the tracks are 10" from the muzzle. It was in my pickup in Wisconsin for most of a few winters--hot-cold-condensation. I don't see this on any barrels not subjected to the temperarture change.

A form of ionic transfer ? (Which is what causes rust pitting due to wet conditions also)
Or shooting with condensation in it?

Condensation pitting is definitely a problem. I've experienced it, too.
Until I find 'bore worms' in a new blank, I'll continue to blame corrosion pitting.
Mostly appears to be a cosmetic issue unless someone let it go untreated for a significant amount of time.

I am not gme but I stayed at a Holiday Inn a couple times.
From a google search:

"Filiform corrosion is a type of corrosion that looks like little worms or filaments spreading under the coating on a metal. It can only occur when there is a layer or coating (usually paint) over the top of the metal"

Do they feel like there is any depth to the marks, or is it just staining. I wish had never purchased a borescope after I had look at my 338 barrel. Without the magnification, they might smaller than they appear. That was how it was explained to me. Which is a reason some say the barrel shoots fine. In the case of my barrel it shoots under 1/2 an moa at 200yds.

Keep in mind the magnification. Look at the difference between the lands and grooves with your naked eye, then look at your borescope image.
Most of what is seen in borescope images is nearly, if not completely undetectable with the naked eye.
The thing is, a bullet is under considerable constriction and passing over that area at extremely high velocity and that bullet is expected to go to a specific spot a long way from where it started.

Opening your eyes is a risk. You are now aware of things you were oblivious to before. And likewise, the explanation of things you never understood may well be visible for the first time.

Believe Barrel Worms are imperfection in the steel, possibly chips from rifling, have had 1 with Major worms sent back to Pac Nor & 1 with a few that shoots great, a Criterion

I recently installed a barrel with a worm problem on my rifle. Looks promising so far. Still in the load development stage. Time will tell.

I think it is impurities in the steel myself. Isn't this seen just in stainless steel barrels because I have a Krieger SS barrel with the same etchings. If someone has pictures from a CM barrel please post them.
