bore treatment

I read through some of the literature, they really do need to get someone to clean up their verbiage in order to present this professionally. It sounds like snake oil to me, but I could be wrong!

I think I'll take a pass on putting this in any of my Shilen, Hart and Krieger barrels, or even the factory ones for that matter. Just more slick advertising hype designed to sell the product, probably with little or no real evidence to prove the claims being made. Not unlike the snake oil that was sold from a covered wagon in the 1800's. But, it's your barrel, do whatever you like. ;)

DukeDuke, I checked out the link and it sounds like a foreigner wrote the ad. It also sounds like a con. Several years ago, I experimented with moly coating bullets and barrel bores. I ended up limiting moly coating to Barnes X bullets and black powder rifle bores. It helps reduce the Barnes copper fouling and seems to help season black powder rifle bores.

I'm not going to try this stuff, but if you or anyone else does, I'd like to know how it comes out. I'm a sucker for gadgets, gimmicks, etc. I ought to know better.

Good luck, Tom

Thank you guys for checking on this! A friend told me about it , so I wanted to run it by knowledgeable people. I can't get passed the part where the product should not be applied in the chamber, does it make sense to you?

"The surface becomes bullet proof". Just what in the hell is that supposed to mean? Absolute, shear BS! Fagetaboudit, it's junk. Wish I had a dollar for all the "things" friends have told me about. My response now is "show me the proof".

I remember that teflon SNAKE OIL
YOU were supposed to rub rub rub it in.
Like many other snake oils accuracy suffered.
I had that crap lapped out and the rifle started shooting again.
If it isn't broke don't fix it.
A good shooting rifle is a good shooting rifle.
Once the accuracy wears off do a set back or barrel change.

Yeah, keeping it out of the chamber makes sense. Any kind of lubricant is bad in a chamber, and molybdenum disulfide, the most common form, is an extreme pressure lubricant. Lube in a chamber can raise the thrust load on a bolt by preventing the case from gripping the chamber wall when fired. Possibly to a dangerous level. Even if this stuff doesn't do the good things that they claim, it could do a bad thing by upping bolt load. Ironic isn't it? Maybe no upside, but for sure a down side.

Tom: yes, and that's another thing I've recently learned, thanks again to the borescope. When I got my new Hart barreled 6BR, 1-8 twist, the first 2 or 3 firings always produced very hard bolt lift. No flattened/cratered primers, shiney ejector rub marks on the case head. After the first couple of firings, all was normal. Asked the 'smith about it and he said I was probably leaving some cleaning solvent in the chamber. Gave the rifle a normal cleaning to the point where I thought it was completely dry patched inside. Went in with the Hawkeye and found the chamber wet (very) and the bore completely dry. It makes sense, since a proper fitting patch will be a snug fit , and will dry the bore, but will be too small for the oversized chamber, and will pass-over the solvent, leaving it in the chamber. Continue to learn. ;)

Hear-Hear

I raise my glass to Tom for bringing out a very good point... a product that is supposed to "help" a gun shoot more accurately and in essence could be causing more harm than good. ??? ??? ???
