Bore scope ?????

I was wondering if there was a decent bore scope priced for the novice or do you have to go ahead and bust a grand to get one that works. thanks c

You can get a Hawkeye for way less than a grand....
Never seen a scope that will do better than they are.....

Seems like I spent ~$750 for a 17" hawkeye kit.

Do not even consisder paying Hawkeye's prices for a light.
I mounted an LED light on it which is way better than anything they offer.
And the camera adapter isn't needed. Just put any Sony digital in MACRO mode and point it down the eyepiece.

$620 delivered to my door, after the $75 rebate, for the 17" Shooter's Edition Kit w/ case. Meets all of my requirements, best investment I ever made, has paid for itself many times over. ;)

Thanks for the advice, the hawkeye sounds like the way to go. Im kinda afriad of what Im gonne see in some of my bores ;D

c3006: Don't be, what you will be is better informed. Not only about the actual condition of your barrel(s), but you will also learn, first hand, what cleaning products work, and more importantly, which do not! You will also learn what cleaning procedures are working for you, not having to rely on the advice, (sometimes good, sometimes not) of others. If you are looking at a used rifle to buy, you will have the opportunity to 'scope out the barrel before you make the purchase, rather than buying the proverbial "pig-in-the-poke". This alone has saved me $$$$, close to paying for the 'scope in savings. Recently used it to 'scope out my 6ppc and found the exact distance in front of the chamber that was damaged by fire-cracking. Then knew exactly how much the barrel had to be set-back to get to the "good" rifling. When selling a used rifle, I insist that the buyer inspect my barrel before buying, and they know what they are getting, and I can sell the rifle for top Dollar. I could go on and on with the advantages, but once you have a quality borescope, you will quickly experience all of them. I'll say it again: best investment I ever made, related to shooting & reloading. ;)

The hawkeye is an excellent tool and worth every penny. As for cleaning and what works best? I work with my hawkeye and rifle barrels every day and the best combination i have found is kroil or kg1 for carbon and kg12 for copper. Im sure some have a special mix that they swear by but the borescope tells all.

I also have a hawkeye and the best stuff that I have found that works is also kg1 and kg12. The bore scope was a great investment you will be happy if you buy one.

A fellow shooter from this web. stopped by the house to purchase a rifle. I was always worried that I was over cleaning my barrels. Boy what a surprise, it was just some carbon most likely. But what an eye opener for me! I am thinking the same thing. It was a Hawkeye, and the only complaint he had was the mirror didnt hold up quite perfectly. But a company with their reputation from all these testimonials will more than likely take care of that when notified. Awesome tool!

From what i have been told those Mrrors are different on the new models.
Hawkeye knows about the mirrors having a small problem and fixed it.
I was reluctent to buy one due to the priice but after aquiring one i'm not sorry on my decision. They are top notch

I don't understand the postings about "mirror failures/problems". I used the original one for almost 4 years problem free, gave it to my son, who continues to use it trouble free, and just recently (several months ago) bought a new "green head" version of the same 17" Deluxe model. It also is trouble free. The difference may be the presence of solvent left in the bore: if I see the slightest trace, the 'scope is immediately withdrawn, no exceptions. If someone damages the mirror, don't blame Gradient Lens Corp.: they make a product of the highest quality.

I agree with Frank. My hawkeye is 15 years old and not one problem. Bore must be liquid free and don't let everyone borrow it. The person that paid for it takes better care. Don't put your scope in a dirty hole. Carl

Want to have a little fun at a Gun Show ???
Tote a Hawkeye bore scope around in it's box...
Some of the guys behind the tables seem to get real nervous at the sight of one 'O)

Preacher , and it's amazing how many want to BORROW it for just a few minutes ;)

Regarding Hawkeye borescope mirrors. I learned from my gunsmith about 4 yrs ago his problem with the mirror. It seems the reflective material is on the outside surface and he got some hydralic fluid on it. It completely removed the coating. He had to send it back to Gradient. So as previously said only put it in a dry barrel etc.

I have to admit, now that I have a borescope I can not imagine working without one. It really is the ONLY way to know what is going one in your barrel and whether or not you are getting proper results with your cleaning regimen! Is it worth it even at $1000.00? Hell yes if you really shoot alot and are trying to compete! If you are just a meat hunter then no way.
