Borden action switch barrel

I have tried reaching out to Borden rifles a few times about this question and cant reach anyone

I have two Borden action Alpine and rimrock ssr both repeaters, it looks like both actions are 1-1/16” x 18 TPI

I have a 6br barrel on the rimrock ssr, my question is do those actions have barrel swap capability without any issues?

Yes, depending on who did the chambering.

Jim always does a .002" head space so it will accept the full family. Now, if someone else did the chambers and did them at 0 or .0005 you might have to bump your shoulders a touch more on the shorter action.

The SSR and alpine family are .875 head space +/- .001. If you have a way to check your headspace just confirm that they fall in that range and you're fine.

Also, until VERY RECENTLY the Borden line did not have timed threads, your engraving will most likely NOT line up from action to action.

Who's doing the chamber work and is it not possible for them to verify dimensions? I know his Alpines and Timberlines are generally set up for recoil lugs, so lug thickness has to be the same, at least. I'm not sure about any non br Rimrock though. Every Rimrock I've worked with uses a .900 TL and HS dimension but that's without a lug, due to the tang and bottom lugs of those action designs.

Bottom line, if the smith is in doubt about how to determine the right dimensions...send him the action. If that doesn't work for him, get a different smith. An old and properly fit bbl is another option, for him to simply duplicate.

I'll chamber bbls for Jim's BR actions all the time without having the action or old bbl in hand because they have always been that consistent. But, there's no way I'd do it for a recoil lugged action unless I have the lug, at the very least. Even then, I'd prefer to have the old bbl or action to work from. Safest is the action and lug, assembled and checked before shipped back..

I already have a Borden rimrock ssr barreled action chambered and ready to go. My goal was to remove that barrel and screw it on my alpine and utilize that setup as it fits what I want to do more

My original question was if I take it off the rimrock ssr would it headspace to the alpine without issues, worst case I suppose I could sent it to a gunsmith to verify or alter if needed

The Rimrock moniker is only for a bolt that has the Borden bumps tech on the bolt.

This is why you can have a Rimrock BRM OR BRMXD or an alpine (typical hunting action) with a Borden bumps bolt which becomes the SSR / LSR : or mountaineer RR

All repeaters have an .875 head space with a lug, Integral or not.

Borden BENCHREST ACTIONS with square tangs have the .900 HS. This varies for new, Lapua bolt face actions with 1-1/8 diameter tenons
