I was in RVN in late 1969 (first tour). A guy in the MAC-V SOG unit had a copy. We passed it around. I wrote Keith to order a copy. Address: Elmer Keith, Salmon, Idaho, USA, asking how much for a copy. He sent it free, with a note saying he would never charge a Soldier fighting in RVN for his Country. When I left in September of 1971 (about 18 months later) I left it with a team mate. Bought a copy when I got back home. Still have it, in a place of honor on a shelf. He remembered that the first trip I made to Salmon after moving here in summer of 1978.

There will never another Elmer Keith...
