Boltface Bushing

Hi guys,
i am wanting to build a 22PPC on my Short Stiller Predator action which has a 308 boltface, used to be a 22-250)
I am going to have to bush the bolt face and was wandering how you go about it in terms of fit.
Does it have to be a press fit, can it be silver soldered or tig welded in place bearing in mind i shall be fitting a sako extactor as well.
Thanks.

Ian.

PS. Before anyone mentions it i dont want a 22BR.

What you said is to hot at the end of the bolt...
A nice slip fit and soft solder will keep it all in place, if everything is squeaky clean when you do it......
Brownells Force 44 comes to mind....

I HAVE ONE WITH THE SAKO EXTRACTOR SET A LITTLE DEEPER/
IT ALLOWS THE EXTRACTOR TO PICK UP BOTH TYPES OF CASES.
IT WORKS WELL .

Don't use heat on a bolt. J-B Weld works just fine. Make the bushing a slip fit. A press fit will not do any good because you'll be cutting it in half with the slot for a SAKO extractor. Today, automobiles, boats and airplanes are glued together. No reason it won't work on firearms. I have bushings that were glued in 20 years ago and they are still there.

Use Tix brand solder from Brownells. It melts at 275deg. No chance of changing the heat treat if your carfull. Highforce 44 is great stuff but it melts at 475 and it's realy easy to get too much heat into a part and change the temper. I've soldered lots of bolt bushings with Tix with absoultly no problems.
