Bolt to chamber/barrel clearance.

What is the ideal clearance from the end of the bolt to the chamber/barrel end.

What are the consequences if the clearance is too small or too large?

Thanks

You're referring to the Bolt Cone to Barrel Clearance.

In his new book The Book of Rifle Accuracy on pages 188 and 189, Tony Boyer, for his 6mmPPC says: "It is important to maintain a bolt to cone clearance between .005" and .015".

He goes on to say that his barrels are specified to have a clearance of .008" and that if the bolt cone contacts the barrel, it can degrade accuracy.

He also presents steps on how to measure it along with great pictures of it being done.
