Is he planning to shoot game in the 1920's?I have someone who is interested in building a bolt action for a 9.3x74R. Doesn't look good to me. Any further advice on this combination?
Got it. It makes some sense, but I still think there will be feeding issues. Darned interesting cartridge though. Still kicking myself for passing on a beautiful German drilling that was 16-gauge double and a 9.3X73R lower barrel. That was in the '70s and 16-gauge shells were already hard to find... and "what the hell is that rifle cartridge?" Sure would like to time travel.I agree with everyone, but the deal is that he has a side by side in this cartridge and would like a bolt action in the same to match.
I recently purchased a German Drilling 16s over 9.3x72r . 16 gauge brass cases are available and reasonable. Almost ready to try it . Too bad its ten years too late to be used by me as a hunting piece !Got it. It makes some sense, but I still think there will be feeding issues. Darned interesting cartridge though. The only action that might work would be a Turkish Mauser.I agree with everyone, but the deal is that he has a side by side in this cartridge and would like a bolt action in the same to match.
What makes you think a Turk is any different than any other Mauser ? Just curious. The only action that might work would be a Turkish Mauser.
I think he is thinking Siamese Mauser .What makes you think a Turk is any different than any other Mauser ? Just curious.

Siamese Mauser you can open the bolt face and alter the rails on any Mauser and make them work. I like 1909 and 1908. all the pre war German Mauser are real good.I have someone who is interested in building a bolt action for a 9.3x74R. Doesn't look good to me. I sent a message to a good friend who has Siamese action in his odds and ends and is also a big fan of the 9.3x74R. He said the mag box is too short.
