Bog Death Grip?

Bog Death Grip

Anyone actually do any shooting off one of these? I ordered one based on the Bulletin on this forum and it seems to be built fairly well (albeit in China). I was just wanting to hear from someone with some real experience. Thanks in advance.

A few of us in MN have them for our winter hunting over bait. The only complaint/concern we have using them is the plastic collar that tightens on the post limiting horizontal movement. The knob on the bolt that tightens the collar is small and tucked under the head on purpose, I suppose so you cant over tighten it. We have not broken one yet....

Otherwise, for the price, it works well. It holds the rifle on target hands free and still allows for fine tuning of aim point without knobs. We have used 10-16# rifles with no issues. We have both carbon and aluminum leg models. I prefer the carbon but for no reason other than looks cooler.

I use one for open country coyote calling, I like the fact that you can lower it enough to sit behind it and shoot, I don't like to have to pack it very far, I'm getting older. One of my hunting partners(younger) carries his in a backpack and uses it most of the time.

I did just buy the head and fitted it to another stout tripod I have and use a quick change mount for a video camera so I can use it for both the rifle and my spotting scope.

Ironically enough I was just looking at one in a friends shop an hour ago. He said it was pretty good for the money.

I use the Kopfjager Reaper Grip and absolutely love it, but it costs about $300 more than the Bog.

i use the carbon version often. Hunting and target shooting. Its a great platform however has one limitation that you have to be willing to accept that i've found, there is no quick disconnect, which would be nice to have when changing stands/positions quicker. Overall though, love it.

Tripods and heads without QD are to be preferred. Because tripod/head QDs are always proprietary, and often not very good.

Get an ARCA Swiss clamp and a few bases. You may even find that some of your devices (e.g. spotters with the flared base plate) are already ARCA, so you don't need the adapter.

Cheap and readily-available on Amazon, eBay. Just screw down with 1/4-20, then never again screw down anything, just clamp very securely and rapidly.

RRS has a good overview of the system, and makes solid options, BUT it is not their system so take their history and "others make it also sure" with a grain of salt: https://www.reallyrightstuff.com/qr-system

As for the price, it's really good and very stable. You can't get into anything even remotely close for the price tier.

For me, the carbon weight savings is very minimal and not worth the extra price. You can get into lighter carbon setups at around $300 I think plus a head, so you are $500-$750. We just use them for night hunting coyotes so it's not really that big of an issue.

Amazon runs sales on them pretty regularly for like $110.

I have both the Death Grip (DG) and Field Pod (FP). IME, using the FP (compared to Harris bipod and rear bag) POI doesn't change but group size increases slightly. Using the DG, POI shifts and groups increase slightly more more than with the FP. With the DG, my heartbeat is noticeable in the scope, not so much with the FP. Both will work fine for hunting game at reasonable distances. I have killed deer using the FP. I will be trying out the DG during my upcoming hunt in Wisconsin.
For tree stand hunters there are the DG Elevation and Tree Pod (TP). I have and have used a TP. It's kinda a PITA to install and takes up a lot of room on your platform (I use hang on stands). The DG Elevation I will be checking out this hunt. IMO it seems easier to install and use. The brackets attach to the tree, not the stand. I have extra brackets for additional setups.
Whatever you use, practice with it. Verify your POI. Mike

I use one to hunt deer from a ground blind. I also use it to hold my rifles for cleaning as I don’t have a table. It’s a fairly heavy piece. I wouldn’t want to pack it too far. The titanium model is lighter but by only a pound. It’s well made and handy as a front pocket. It will move your POI by about 1/2 MOA as it keeps the gun from its normal jump. I like how adjustable the legs are too. Worth the money.

Just got mine in from Amazon last week.
Was hitting the x at 505 yards the same day off of it.
I did find out the lower you can set it up the less I seen my heartbeat in the scope.
So keep it as low as possible.
Light (6 lb) foldable and really steady. I love it.

Just got mine and was able to use it. It is a bit heavy but I don't carry it more than a mile or two a day at most. Got a hog at 296 yards with it first time I used it. Paid around $125 delivered.

I got one for my son for the youth deer hunt. I was shocked how beefy and well built it was for the price. The thing is rock solid and we even mounted a 13.5lb ruger precision rifle on it and you could position it however you want and it would stay there. I am very impressed.
