Bob Green Comparitor( Any other users?)

What is the advantage/ difference in this tool as opposed to the Sinclair stand w/ comparitor body and indicator? I am currently sorting base to ogive. Prior to this I used 2 comparitor and sorted by bearing surface. I have determined sorting base to ogive is more productive as it aids in consistent bullet seating depth(As I see it! I could and probably am and defiantly have been wrong) JVON

Re: Bob Green Comparitor

His tool would probably just be faster, after you got the feel of using it. But it is sorting as you have described.

Re: Bob Green Comparitor

The Bob Green tool does not sort base to ogive, it sorts from the point that the seater stem contacts the bullet to the point that the bullet contacts the rifling. Bob Green's comparator is by far the best out there for ensuring consistent seating depth.

100% correct.....

Re: Bob Green Comparitor

With all due respect , I simply use a comparator with my Mitutoya digital on the bullets, not using the case. It's a shorter distance to work with and considerably more accurate, as you are eliminating the case.

What are you sorting with this method?

Re: Bob Green Comparitor

Eric;

I sort all my bullets, no matter whose they are, with the exception of perhaps 2 bullet makers I shoot with in the Eastern region. We shoot "group", meaning we are attempting to put 5 rounds into the same hole as the first one went into. and then of course, finding out where your barrel likes them seated, in relation to the lands.
Tight ? Off .003? .005 ? More ? A blackened bullet with farmer matches will tell you where the lands are. There are other methods. I prefer that one.

Re: Bob Green Comparitor

Absolutely !
but here is another step equally important, and that is the seater. I have become disappointed with my Wilson seater STEM , because it does NOT come down against the ogive. There are several that have taken that into consideration, and the best for my money is made by Don Nielsen, aka, " the pumpkin" , but then...everything he makes is first class. If you take one of his seating stems, twist a bullet several times in it and examine the bullet, you will see a ring around the complete bullet where the seater made contact.
( try that with an older Wilson stem. ) I have three and it can't be done.

Re: Bob Green Comparitor

What does the stem have to do with sorting bullets? I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused as to what you are telling me.

Nothing Eric;

Sorting is one thing. Seating is another. My point was, one is just as important as the other.

Oh, I see. Sorry, I got confused, but I agree.
