blued Savage 17 HMR

I have read a lot of good reports on the Savage 17 HMR's. I had a chance to sell the Marlin 917S, and ordered a Savage 93R17-BTV,cr-moly) and would like to know if anyone is shooting this blued gun, and how it is doing. It is physically identical to the stainless gun; laminated thumbhole stock, 21' varmint wt barrel, accu-trigger, etc.

I expect it to be as accurate as the stainless gun, but don't know that it is.

Any experience with this rifle?

Thanks, Tom

I have the lefty version in the basic wood stock, not the laminated thumbhole.

Mine needed to have the barrel lug checked for concentricity in the stock and I used a torque wrench to properly tighten it into the wood.

Once that was done I ran some CCI with 17 Vmax through it and printed ~ 0.9' 5 shot groups at 100 yards on 2 days, one cool and a light breeze. One hot and dead calm.

Rifle shoots great, I put a decent scope on it that I'm quite happy with. It was meant as a medium distance trainer to teach me to read the wind and stretch a cartridge to it's limits within 300 yards.

I need to put different rings on mine since it has a high mounted 50mm Obj. scope making a good cheek weld near impossible with the OEM stock.

I have yet to dust anything with it, my last trip to the range netted 4 starlings that were dumb enough to sit on the target board at 100 yards when my 22 was in front of me. I'm bringing the 17 along next time to christen it.

bohemR13, the order for the blued gun fell through, so I stopped in at the local Bass Pro Shops and got a stainless 93R17-BTVSS instead. Put a Burris 3 x 9 x 40 Fullfield with the ballistic plex reticle on it. As soon as I can, I'll break it in and test different ammo in it. The rifle has a good feel and a decent trigger. I've got my fingers crossed.

Thanks for your reply, Tom
