Blue dot in 357 ?

Anyone have any luck with blue dot.
I have been reading for negative issues
About it. But you know how the web sites
Are. About it being temp sensitive, dirty
Etc. Guess I'll just load up a few and see
For myself.

Back in the 70's I loosened up and cut the top strap of a Smith M19 6" with a couple of cans of BlueDot and 110gr. Sierra.

Great .357 mag powder.

Used it briefly in the early 80's and while it shot well enough, it didn't meter well through a power measure.

For me, it's difficult to imagine a better powder for the 357 magnums for magnum loading than 2400 especially with 140 through 158 grain bullets. For hunting, this gave me the ultimate in energy and performance.

These days, I shoot a lot of moderate charges of 231 with 125 Hornaday XTP bullets. This combination is extremely accurate, and the recoil is mild. 231 meters very well through a powder measure.

The 125 grain Oregon Trail Laser Cast bullets are also very accurate with moderate charges of 231.

I use BlueDot on everything, except corn flakes. It is not any dirtier than any other flake powder. and has a real broad range of cartridges it can be used in, I also use it for reduced loading

As K22 suggests it does not measure well in most measures, I use Lees cheap perfect powder measure it works perfect for BlueDot and most similar flake powders, the soft plastic wiper makes it work perfect

Pressure wise it can be a little "spikey."

I dont use it anymore. There are better options avail these days that burn clean and meter better.

Well I loaded my first 357 with blue dot. Never tried it before. Shooting at 50 yards over the chrony as well. My conclusion is that a lot of reports about blue dot is hog wash. I got some pretty good consistent velocity and decent groups. I did not see where it was so dirty. Only thing I noticed was that when getting a little over 1500 fps the accuracy dropped off.

I used Blue Dot exclusively in my 6" S&W Combat Mag thru
the very late 70's and most of the 80's in IPSC. Took 6 back
to back club revolver championship with one being an overall.
Also won high revolver in the very first sectional championships
and second in the second. Over a two day period, Rich Gibbons,
A New York state trooper, edged me out by "One" shot.

Note....I only shot my own hard cast bullets of a modified
truncated 9mm version stretched to 152 grains, and opened
up the mold to cast .358 diameter. If your having accuracy
problems, slug you barrel and match your bullets up.

Other then that.....Everything else and other purposes, my 357's
dined on 2400.
