Blacked out bolt

I have seen this on a few new Remingtons where the entire bolt is black. Can this be done to a regular bolt and how?

It is simply the bolt being bead blasted then blued. To do it, you would need to contact someone with a tank bluing system set up. If they have this, they most likely have experience in cleaning all the oils off the parts before bluing.

I should strongly suggest telling the 'smith to stay the he** away from the rear of locking lugs when bead blasting in preparation for the blueing.
