Bipod question

I have used Harris Bipods for years and they work good but one design problem exists. They have springs in the legs that return the leg, when yur trying to level your rifle on uneven ground you have to hold your rifle with one hand and unscrew the lock ring and pull leg out and hold it while you turn the lock ring with the other. Seems to make more sense to me to have compression springs springs to extend the legs. I looked to see if this has been discussed before but couldn't find anything. My question is does anyone make a bipod like this?

I have wondered the same thing myself, it seems to be as we say down here, "bass-ackards"....

I order the 1A2-BR model with the thumb screw tensioner.

I disassemble the legs and remove the springs. The hardest part is getting the heavy position springs back in place, but it is worth it.

After removing the springs, you can tip to one side, unscrew the tensioner, and it drops down to the height you want, and tighten.

I know..........you shouldn't have to do that, but I have reached the point where I just fix the crap instead of letting it bother me.

Don’t know anyone that makes one that does. Harris makes good stuff and I use the no notch one for prone shooting praire dogs. Just took a little practice with one hand and pivoting rifle to get the weight off one leg. Notches limit adjustment.

Forgot to add to my post, but I turn the legs around also when I take the springs out.

Another "what the hell where they thinking". From factory the tension screws are on the front so you have to reach around or through the legs to adjust. Swapping the legs puts the screws at the rear so you can reach them easily and quickly.

How unlevel does the ground get in 12"? Used a Harris bipod for 45 years without needing ajustments.

Seriously?? You maybe using the swivel kind that the rifle pivots on?? Mine are hard fixed to the gun and cant the gun a great deal on an uneven surface. Bought a new one that pivots and legs extend from gravity, will try it and let you all know how it works. Thanks for all the input!
