BIPOD OR BAGS

For a hunting rifle I work up loads in the field while hiking with my dogs. With practice you can shoot some small groups with a bipod and rear bag in the dirt.:D:D

I like to work up all my accuracy front rest and bags. Once i get the guns accuracy, I attach a Bipod to see where I'm at. Typically there's a very small change in POI so with my hunting rifles, I adjust to that change and I'm good. With my ground hog guns, I leave them as I mostly use bags to shoot them.

After sighting in i most of the time just use a bipod preloaded and my shoulder for the rear bag. Preloaded being that i lean into the bipod locking the legs and making a triangle between my shoulder and the legs.

Harris bipod front sand bag in rear.
LIGHT shoulder preasure on short action rounds, a lil more pressure on long action chamberings

If the load is to be shot at targets only I'll use a front rest and bags. If the load is developed for hunting then I'll do my testing from a bi-pod.....which is the way I'll shoot when varmint hunting.

Have you tried a good load both ways and been able to note a difference?

There's usually a slight difference....a front rest and rear bag gets the nod when it comes right down to it. But when I'm varmint hunting the prairie dogs don't know the difference and accuracy is plenty good enough with a bi-pod.

I zero and develop loads with the supports I use in the applicable match.
