Big Stuff -- 6.5mm and Up

I have been trying to decide what rifle to get for long range target shooting and have kinda been swaying towards a H&S Precision HTR, but am not sure about the calibre as 6.5x284 seems to be getting great results but on paper the 6.5x284 cartridge seems to be very similar to 6.5x55 which is much easier to get ammo for here in Ireland. Any info or comments greatly appreciated!

I have shot both and the 6.5x284 has the edge. However the 6.5x55 is an outstanding round and you would not be disappointed with either round.

If I was going to build another 1000yd gun I would now look at a straight 284 using the 180gr Bergers. I think this is going to be the new kid on the block an may replace the 6.5x284 because of the better BCs and better barrel life. Not sure how the recoil will be though.

I have been looking at the 284 my self for some long range shooting. For me I always select the caliber where I can get brass for. When you do find brass you can buy a lot of it then only shoot some of it.
