big magnum BR action

think I want a single shot action,,RB LP magnum bolt for big ammo,, 338 Edge,338 Norma or 338 LM,,1.350 barrels 32 inches long,,would the Stiller Python be a good choice??

I have shot the TRG42 a bit and Love the caliber but would rather have a rifle built to shoot from a rest with a good straight tracking stock,,probably take a year to get the parts a piece at a time,,and dont want to have to buy anything twice,,

I would get a big Bat for the cartridges you mention. I believe to hang a 32 inch 1.350 barrel on an action it needs to be stout unless you use a barrel block. Stiller should have other actions that would work. If you are going to use the big case head like the Lapua you need the bigger diameter bolt. I would not put it in a Rem size bolt. I like bigger lugs and bolt for my Lapua IMP. Matt

I would not build a Lapua or Lapua IMP on a 1.062 thread tenon or a Rem size bolt. You can but there is much metal left for safety. Even Borden doesn't recommend it A lot of gunsmiths won't do it. The pressures and bolt thrusts of the big cases like the Lapua and 378 Weatherby sized cases is a lot. Then to hang a 1.350 barrel at 32 inches is a lot for the action. With the size of the boltface there is not a lot of metal left. Stiller makes a Lapua Cheytac sized action. So does BAT. Matt

from the Stiller site, they say it is good for 408 Chey Tac

All actions except the Python use 1.0625-18 tpi, 1.115 inch headspace. The Python uses a 1.1875-18 tpi, 1.375 headspace and requires a barrel diameter of 1.25 min.

the BAT Model L,,looks good and takes a huge barrel,,,I assume it takes the Rem 700 Jewell trigger??

a 1.450 dia barrel is some serious stuff,,,I like it

I have two 10" Bat's and I think they will handle anything you want!

+1 !

I've got a couple of bat M actions and it's their "standard" magnum action with a MINIMUM barrel diameter of 1.25" and they said I could run a 32" 1.45" off of it no worries.

The L model is the next step up and would be bloody hard to beat!!

Barnard also do some actions designed for 338 etc.

Yes, the BAT L is HUGE. Mine has a Jewell trigger as well. You couldn't be disappointed with this action.
