BIB 95gr FB for 6br

I have a 6br 10 twist at the smith now and have gathered components waiting on it. The reamer is a .2704 neck with a .089 freebore for use with Lapua brass not turned. The intention was to use Berger 90 grain BT for short to mid range work. I have some waiting and will be trying them.

I was reading on the 6br page here about the 95 BIBs and how good they are in 10 twist. I now have an order of them on the way to try also. Is anyone using these in 10 twist and have any reloading tips. There is a load listed with Varget on the 6br page and I was thinking of trying to work up to that for starters. Other than that what data do you use for these bullets? Thanks

Mine shot well with IMR 8208, my fb is .060 just kiss the lands works on my 10 twist, did not push the max charges on mine.

I used 30.5 grains of 8208XBR and also 31.0 grains of Varget. My freebore is just a tad short for the 95 grain BIB FB. I think yours will be too. Randy has told me that .104 is perfect...but that was right after his knee replacment surgery...

Thanks guys for the experiences and the link. I'll read up on it. Once the BIBs get in and my rifle is done I'll just have to check how much bearing surface and how deep I am in the case while touching the lands. I'm hoping the .089 freebore will allow enough velocity for short range work. I'm hoping I can stick with varget as I use alot of it in .308 and have a bunch on hand. Was thinking of a VV powder if I tested anything else.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, was the freebore too short on yours to reach a velocity you were after and you couldn't reach a node or something else?

31.1-31.4gr Varget 0.005" into the lands works well for me in a similar setup to yours. 31.7gr gives a somewhat stiff bolt lift. I'd start at 30.0gr and work up.

Excellent results with the 95 BIB in my Cooper 1:10 twist with 30.5 gr H4895 .02 off the lands, typical to Coopers.

No, the FB was too short to have much flexibility without the base of the bullet down into the case. I like to have the base of the bullet no deeper than the level that my bushing sizes the neck. With my FB, the 95 BIB is 100% to the base of the neck...and it's pretty jammed at that.

not for sure. 80-85-ish.

It's great for the Berger 87 VLD Hunting. A tad short for the 95 BIB.

Might try n-540 with'em.
That what I shot in mine. I shoot it with the 90 berger bt's and had the best groups with that combo. I've shot the 90bt's for several years. Bibs didn't shoot hardly as good.
