BIB 95 FB, Berger 95 VLD - need samples

I'm having a 6BR reamer ground, and I'd like to make up a couple of dummy rounds to help determine the freebore and neck dimensions. I need 2 or 3 of each of the bullets with the longest,BIB 95 FB) and shortest,Berger 95 VLD) bearing length that I'm planning to shoot,it's a 1-9 twist).

If anyone could spare a few of each of the above bullets, I'd be happy to pay for the bullets and postage.

I've read all the threads I could find on this subject, and it looks like a freebore of 0.080 will, barely -- 0.030 or so) keep the BIB 95 FB above the neck-shoulder junction, and, barely -- 0.130 or so) get a grip on the Berger 95 VLD. I really appreciate the volume and detail of info on the site, but just for peace of mind I'd like to make up the dummy rounds anyway. Thanks!

Randy Robinett himself came through with a few samples of his BIB 95gr FB, so I'm all set.

If anyone has tried the BIB 95 FB and the Berger 95 VLD with success in the same chamber, I'd be curious to know the freebore dimension. Thanks!

TB -

If memory serves, the " Ballistic Idiot " only sells the 95 BIBs
by the 500.

Is that still the case ? If so, that may enter into your bullet choice considerations ?

375Mag,

Randy does sell a minimum lot size of 500 bullets. That's OK with me -- when I used to shoot a lot of BR it was helpful to have at least 1000 from a single lot of bullets that shoot well. Having a shelf full of supremely accurate bullets is like having money in the bank! :)

From what I've heard about the 95gr BIBs I'll be sorry I didn't buy 1000 instead of 500 ... handmade bullets still seem to be one of the great values in the shooting sports.

Joe, thanks for the info on the 0.080 freebore. I'll probably end up with a dimension pretty close to that.

Toby: Randy has the throat specs. well worked out for those bullets. I'm sure he'd be happy to help you out if you contacted him.

Here's a link to his website:BIB Bullets

P.S. You may want to consider having the reamer done with no throat and then throat in a seperate operation.

"I shoot 107/105 and tried the 95BIBs and they required a longer throat than the 107s. I understand from talking to Randy that his 95s pretty much require a dedicated chamber to shoot them." savageguy

Savageguy, I believe you have the 108 Gr. BIB FB confused with the 95 Gr. FB: a reamer throated for the 105 Berger and/or 107 Gr. Sierra, roughly 0.100" free-bore, give or take a few thou (for personal preferences) works very well with the 95 GR. BIB FB.

As JRS pointed out, upon perusing the original samples, Dave Kiff, decided that 0.104" is about right for the 95GR. BIB, while with a BR length neck, as little as 0.080" of free-bore works well also: so,combined with the traditional 1.5 Deg. throat angle (3.0 deg included), anything form 0.08" to 0.100+ a little works. ;) The BIB 108 Gr. FB has about 0.100" more shank (bearing surface) than the BIB 95 GR. FB, thus does require a more dedicated "throat" - about 0.200" being a good number to shoot for: for people who have dedicated a barrel to the BIB 108 Gr. FB, but desire a lighter bullet option, I also offer a 98 GR. FB based upon the same jacket,1.150" long J4) as the 108 Gr. BIB FB - a most excellent option for a "longish" throated 1:9" twist barrel. Good shootin'! RG

Randy,

Do you still make the 95 BIB FB? I didn't see it on the BIB webpage. Will it shoot in a 1:10 twist 6BR? Any in stock?

Yes, the BIB 95 Gr.. FB has become relatively popular - this bullet is ideally suited to 1:10" twist barrels, which provide a 1.5 Sg. You are probably looking at a VERY OLD advertisement, on the Bench-rest Central web-site: I have not been able to get that ad deleted, and for some reason, a GOOGLE search leads there, as opposed to my REAL web-page, which is: www.bibullets.com, where all of my current info is posted . . well, most of it! ;) RG

"sweet. Thanks for the update. Any stock on these 95 FB or are they all made to order?"

Tiny - did you receive my PM? If not, please either call or, e-mail regarding stock status on the 95 Gr. FB. RG
