Better mousetrap?

I'm cleaning carbon off the outside of my necks with steel wool. If I shoot a bunch or several rifles the callus that I have built up in my thumb twisting brass in the steel wool hurts.

Is there an automated (machine) that will do this that I've just not seen yet?

PS - No tumbers...don't want to tumble my brass.

Go to the Sinclair International (Brownells) catalog and buy yourself some Krazy Kloth.. The product code is KK.. It works better than ANYTHING I have found out there..

I put them in a shellholder you use in a drill to neck turn with and polish without destroying my hands as bad. Actually Lee makes one that is 10.00 and it is called a universal chuck and that works quite well for polishing necks.

I would line the inside of a socket with the steel wool and chuck it in a drill. Spin drill and insert brass neck into socket. Should work well.

+1

I spray some WD-40 on a paper towel and turn the cases with one hand while holding the paper towel in the other. Takes about one turn and the carbon is gone. I can do 100 in about 5 minutes while watching TV. After the necks I lightly whit the entire case.

The side benefit is that the cases will not tarnish while waiting to process them to reload.

I use 3M metal finishing cloth (there are others) it's about 1/4" thick, cut it in strips, chuck the case in my Sinclair case holder and spin them with cordless drill. I clean the entire case in a few seconds, run a nylon brush inside the necks and its done. I do not clean the inside of cases, unless I get a large amount, then I'll use my vibratory cleaner. Just a few drops of Ballistol on a patch cleans all the carbon off of the neck in one or two turns. It works really quick, cleans off easily, and is almost effortless. One bottle last for years.

Thanks guys...some good ideas...doesn't sound like there is a "tool" out there. I've got something pictured in my head, maybe someday I'll get the time and build one or have one built.

I'll try some of these in the meantime. Again thanks!

The "tool" I use is a Sinclair Power Center and do a 4 part cleaning. Chuck the case in the SH, turn on the motor, and while the case is spinning:
1.Clean the neck with 0000 steel wool.
2.Clean the case body with Krazy Kloth.
3.Wipe off the case with a Z-Wipe (microfiber cloth from Sinclair).
4.Wipe off the case with a wet rag of denatured alcohol (cuts through the film left over from the Krazy Kloth).

This procedure totally cleans the case up and is now ready for visual inspection.
