Beta chrony ???

HI TO ALL, I'm new to the site I need some advice on load development for 1000 yrd shooting utilizing a chronograph. I can't figure out how to program my beta chrony so it will give me E.S. and S.D. readings for 3 shot strings, instead of the 10 shot strings that it reads now . Any short cuts or tricks you have will be welcome. I need to find a good load for waaay out their . Thanks to all and feel free to pm me anytime.

The only way I am aware of is to shoot a 3 shot group, push the ST button and shoot another, you may know this, but I'll say it anyway...pressing the ST button will switch to the next string)...repeat this process until you have shot 6 groups,if I am remembering correctly that is all the memory will allow)....use the FU button to run thru all 6 of the strings and write down the SD/ES for each string....erase the memory and start over again.
Hope this helps
DJ

I'm not a statistics major, but I recall reading an article on SD/ES. The gist of it, is that for SD to be meaningful, you need a larger sample size than just 3. What you might do, is that when you find a promising load, decent accuracy and low ES) with your 3-shot samples, make up 5 or,better yet) 10 of that load and try them again. That will raise the confidence that the SD calculation is valid.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I would feel better using the 10 shot string method, I want to trying to save as much ammo as possible, what would you guys think if I were to load up 4 shot strings shoot those 4 shots check my e.s. and s.d. manually and then delete that shot string and start over with a new load? once I've found an e.s. in the teens and an s.d. in the single digits then go to a 10 string to confirm .

Page 16 of the manual tells you how to change the string size under the heading of 'memory configuration'. I set mine up for 10 strings of 6 shots each, it made more sense to me than the factory settings. Good Luck, Chip.

Thanks chip I tried that the other day outside in the sun it was very very hot I thought I had it programed but It just didn't workout for me. It stayed on the factory settings is it possible that I can try it again except this time inside my house?

I remember that it wasn't exactly straight forward and intuitive to change the settings. I would read through the procedure a couple of times and give it another try in the comfort of your easy chair. Once you get it set-up, I think you will be a lot happier with your Chrony. Good Luck, Chip.

Chronographed some loads sat. What I did was shoot three shots @ 200 yrds, write down my e.s. and s.d. and average velocities for each load then I simply turned off my chronograph to clear the shot string and turned it back on, then shot the next three shot group . Will this work? my best load was 87.5 grains of h-1000 1st shot was 2958 2nd 2942 3rd 2926 E.S was 32.90 and the S.D. was 16.00 I don't feel this was good enough, my three shot group measured 7/8 from center to center.
