Best way to cover Screw holes in Barrel?

I have a couple xp-100's that used to have iron sights on them and would like to cover the holes. Both have stainless barrels. Other than a plug is there is there a neater way? Silver solder? Thanks in advance for your help.

How much 'heat' for the silver solder? Barrels, CM or SS, are of heat treated steel. Stick with plug screws.

I could TIG weld them shut and then indicate the barrel and turn off the excess weld, but believe me, you don't want to pay that bill.

I'm wondering if you are thinking of a spray on coating? If so, J-B weld would work as long as you keep them from getting frying eggs hot.

I saw Larry Potterfield fill screw holes on TV once. He used abit longer screws and sort of peened them. Then very carfully filed them down to the contour of the barrel. Looked pretty good. Of course, its TV. I just put screws in mine and live with it.

in order to fill the holes and blend them in by potterfield method you will have to touch up the bluing . one important step other than the longer screws is the fact that you actually countersink the hole a little . this is done so you do not end up with a partial thread line showing. the screw is peened into the countersink and allows for a better blend to the barrel . however to complete the job without any unsightly blemishs it should be re-blued. hope this helps T.R.
