best stock filler

thinking about bedding a remington pathetic stock. what should i use to fill in the holes? i'm afraid that by filling in this stock with like bondo or something that i will add unwanted weight. i don't have any bondo handy or the bedding kit yet so if i go out and spend $40-50 on crap then i might jst be better off buying a houge stock for $110.

also is there anyway of getting out of this cheap, like jst using regular epoxy and show polish for a release agent?

If you need a filler to put in the stock bedore bedding the action I use spray foam. The kind used around electric outlets in the wall. You can get it at any Home Depot or hardware store. Just spray it in the stock, let it swell up and dry. Then use a razor knife to cut it down to the size you want. Once done,doesn't have to be a great job)just glass bed over top and your done.

If you use epoxy, which is fine, use a good furniture wax with Carnauba in it. That is the best release agent I've ever used.Use a couple light coats, allow to dry to a haze between coats.

if i do that then it may turn out alright. the thing is i've floated one out before and the stock overall is not very sturdy. if to much pressure is alplied the stock still will touch the barrel. i've never owned a houge and wonder if it's strurdier.

If you use the foam filler as I suggested you can glass over top of it. I cut the filler down lower after the chamber area to the end if the stock. I then glass forward of the chamber and use a piece of PVC pipe larger than the barrel diameter. This adds strength to the stock. Once the PVC is removed the glass will be lower in the stock. I then bed the action. The barrel will clear the stock and become free floating.

dang, i already ordered the houge. i bedded sps stock w/ acraglass and proly jst needs to be touched up, but i went ahead and ordered a houge stock. i'll be posting the sps stock in the classifieds later.
