Sorta off topic and sorta not. Dang shipping boxes are expensive and shipping cost makes them even worse. U-Line has just about everything but again, expensive. Where's the best place to buy cardboard shipping boxes of various sizes? Thanks!--Mike

If I can't use a flat rate USPS box I find a box at grocery store that will fit my needs. Local store has free boxes of all sizes in a bin at front door.
Apple boxes are usually heavier cardboard, have a cover and 4-5 layers of dimpled separators that make excellent cushions to surround contents.
For heavy items I pack a box within a box for extra security.
I recently packed a front rest with three tops in an apple box......worked perfectly.

U line is about the best deal I’ve found for shipping lone gun boxes, lots of sizes and when bought in bulk they aren’t too bad. I don’t know of anything cheaper but I’m tagging in case someone knows of a better deal. Link below is to the sizes and price they offer, they also offer telescoping box which can be nice for height adjustment.

$5 expensive? I received shipping boxes from U-Line for rifles recently and I thought they were a bargain at $5 each. These have worked very well for me as there is adequate strength and ample room for packing a rifle. Haven't had an issue yet.

I get the telescoping boxes from uline. End up with a double layer of carboard with a rifle suspended in bubble wrap. Never had one damaged yet. You would have to run it over with a truck. They may not be cheap but with a $6k rifle inside I think they are worth it.
These aren't for shipping guns. For that, I agree that 5 bucks is cheap and I don't mind paying for a good box for that kinda thing. This is more along the lines of inexpensive items with very little profit built in and maybe 100/year of this item. If I order 100 of a box that will do the job from U-line, shipping is $143. Box itself is $3.19 each
I use a lot of them but this box needs to be about 24x12x12

Walmart has anything you need. Order online and pickup at a nearby store. No shipping charges and the cost is about $1.00 per box.
