Best scopes for long range 22

the best your wallet can handle, you can't hit what you can't see
whats your definition of rimfire long range?

my closest local NRL22 type matches are from 50 to <200yds, some 2hr away go to 500yds

I'm running an Athlon Midas Tac 6-24 30mm tube that I started with a few years ago on my backup rig
and an Ares 4.5-30 34mm tube on my current primary rifle
both first focal plane with x-mas tree reticals
both in Burris Signiture Insert Rings on 20moa sloped rails
zero'd at 50yds with the scope adjustment pretty much bottomed out to give the max available vertical adjustment

close to upper end Vortex scopes are also somewhat popular in my group and a few run Sightron SIII's all FFP

A few things to consider……

Buy something that focuses down to 10-20 yards.
Take a look at internal adjustment range, the more the merrier with a 22.
Select one with more power than you think you’ll need, it’s easy to turn them down if you don’t need it.
Buy one the best one that fits your budget. You can get some very good scopes for a 22 these days and not spend a fortune.

I run an NX8 with mil-xt and a March tactical. Both scopes are fine. I would go FFP, make sure it has some sort of tree style reticle, go Mils, at least 18x on the max if not more and run a 20-30 moa base.
Occassionally the lighted reticles are used. Last time I used mine was overcast and in timber to help find crosshairs faster.
You need a tree style reticle for the stages that require no dial and sometimes just for speed and/or ease of running a stage. I prefer .2 mil marks on both the horizontal and vertical.
As mentioned above. Buy the best you can afford. They get punished during matches and the cleaner the glass the better. Make sure it focuses down to 25 yrds and has a zero stop. Buy once cry once so IF you can afford it you will be looking at $2000 plus for glass. Obviously this is not realistic for everyone so don't be put off by my recommendations.

Kahles, bushnell, vortex, athalon, nightforce, zero comp probably occupy 95% of the scopes you will see at matches.
Go to a match. The PRS/NRL guys are an encouraging and helpful bunch. I bet 95 out of 100 guys will let you handle their gun and gear and will probably hand you loaded mags to try their rig. I see this quite often and we all want you to be succeed and get it right the first time.

I've used Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 scopes on several of my 22RF repeaters for practical matches, and like them very much. I have Kahles K624i scopes on three of my CF PRS rifles, and have always appreciated the great depth-of-field they have - usually set the parallax adjustment on 600yds and forget it. I mention that because the Cronus doesn't have nearly as much depth-of-field, so I wind up adjusting the parallax knob a lot, especially when the course designer puts targets from 25-150yds. This gets to be a problem on field courses with tight time limits, and I'd probably go with another K624i on my primary 22RF repeater if they could be adjusted down to as close as 25yds. But if you're primarily interested in LR 22RF shooting, the Cronus is a lot of scope for the money, with good glass and very accurate & repeatable adjustments.

Take a look at the Athlon Midas Tac offerings. I have one in 6-24x50 and have shot out to 300. I usually have 4 to 6 targets at varying distances and dial back and forth between targets. My scope is always spot on.
The glass is very clear, crisp from edge to edge. It definitely punches well above its weight class.

I have had excellent results with a Weaver T-36, Sightron III 8X32 and a Muller 40X.

A Zeiss LRP S3 6-36x56 or 4-25x50. Either will work well for matches for power range. The 6-36 parallax down to 10m and the 4-25 is 15m. The 6-36 has 32 mils of elevation and the 4-25 has 46.5 mils of elevation in case you need to go really long. Glass is great on both. Zero stops, locking windage, illuminated reticle and nice easy to ready knobs.

ETA I forgot to mention that the windage and parallax marks are above centerline so they are easier to see from behind the rifle. I blew up a pic so you can see it a little better.

The 6-36 is on top and 4-25 on bottom.

Better comparison of size. 6-36 on left on my Vudoo.

I use a Delta Stryker 5-50X for bench rest. I think it would work well for long range except for the higher than average weight. I prefer its optics to the NF 12-42X.
