Keep in mind; no matter how much money you dump into a Remington based custom it's worth no more than a Remington(sometimes only donor action value), stock/rings/trigger included. Barrel never matters.
They're as common as Chevy Novas or Volkswagen Beetles used to be, and you could not make them valuable even if you put together something really special. So to buy & try means risk, because anything dumped into it is pure & simple loss. This includes your efforts.
Now if you go better gun(something of value) from the git-go, you can rest better about your risks, as your losses are lower.
For instance: Put a BAT/BAT rings/Jewel in a better/well bedded stock & you hit ~$2k pretty fast.
But it's worth just what it cost to that point, even if pieced out.
Put a Savage in a good stock, setup in a popular cartridge & load developed to demonstrable performance,, you could actually profit from this path.
