Best reamer design

Guys,

I have found over 30+ different reamer designs for 22 RF ammo.

What would be the best reamer design for:

1. Target ammo only.

2. Hunting type of ammo,
read the usual stuff you can buy across the counter,
if your are Lucky enough to find any ammo.

3. Is there a combo type reamer for both of the above ammo types.

This will be a bolt action tuned reciever/bbl etc.

Tia,
Don

The issue with your question is what Brand of target ammo ?

The Eley reamer seems to work well with most target ammos as well as the Lilja --

The 52 D Winchester is a favorite of many shooter---

for everyday ammo the Bentz or Anschutz reamer is tough to beat

Good Luck

Thanks Jim/Hippy,

Not trying to be a smart azz or start a pi--ing contest etc, etc,

But I know nothing about 22 LR target ammo etc.
Seeing I have never shot even 1 rd of target ammo in 50+ yrs of shooting/reloading etc, Untill know.
I want to shoot 22 LR out to 500+ yds, and was advised to get Target ammo as it is more uniform/accurate than standard 22 ammo you can buy over the counter etc.

But, why would the Brand of ammo have much to do with any target reamer design etc?

How can I know which target ammo will work the best, if I don't have a proper reamer etc, to shoot the ammo with?
This aspect of target shooting (22LR) is ALL NEW to me.

Seeing that any and ALL 22 LR ammo is not available in my part of the state, at this present time. I would stand a better chance of bailing the ocean out with a tea cup, than finding any target ammo, at this time etc.

Tia,
Don

No Offence taken--BUT for the ULTIMATE accuracy you must match the Reamer with the ammo much like Centerfire EXCEPT we do not have the advantage of loading our own. I do not always agree with Bill Calfee although this is one subject he and I both believe is VERY important.

If u chose to shoot Eley the reamer may not work with Lapula, RWS, OR ??

Again this is why you see soooo many reamer designs my advice is to call Dave Kiff as he is most helpful and knowledgeable on reamer designs --There are some reamer designs that are Privileged information and Guarded SECRETS

Good Luck,

Jim

Thank you for the info,
But, I do not know what brand of 22 ammo (Target) is available around these parts.
I will end up buying a case once I find some etc.
What would be the most common target ammo found, as I don't know of any 22 target match's going on around here.

I will have to check and see if there is some 22 target match's going on in Reno,NV (100 mile drive, 1 way).

Who is Bill Calfee?
Is he a 22 LR Guru/master?
Does he have a site to go to, so I can read/study this type of shooting etc?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I just had to ask them.

Tia,
Don

Yep,
I am already at 300+ yds with my OEM stock 10" TC Contender, best group so far was 3-4" w/3 shots. :o

We have a bunch of guys shooting this far with pistols and farther. It's gotta be cheaper than CF right now, I think.

Just added a 20 MOA base with 10 MOA Sig rings to the 4x14x30mm tube Mueller scope,
as soon as I can figure out this match ammo/reamer design etc,
that will be the next step, added to the build for a pistol/rifle combo's with 18"bbl's, on both.

Here is some more info on these highly accurate 22 RF pistols, see info here:

Try it, You'll like it. ;D

Matt,
It is MORE than a challenge, it will make you Grey haired also!!!!!!!! ;D

Here are some pointers that may help you along the way,
Make sure you use a scope with 1/4" adjustments and have as much UP internal adjustments as possible to use for com-ups. As I found out 1/8" clicks, don't cut it.

Get the highest MOA base (1pc), use Burris Sig rings with all the UP MOA you can get, and use a multidot/crosshair reticule scope to give you multi aiming points to use, as the 22 LR ammo drops like a bowling ball after 200-300 yds.

There can be over 500+ inches of drop to the 500-600yd mark from a 100 zero, depending on weapon setup/ammo used. :o

I have about 32"+ drop from 100 yd zero to 200yd zero with my 10" TC bbl. It is fun, just waiting for all my parts to get here and trying to find some reasonable priced 22 match ammo, to test with and finish my builds.

The site I listed have the best info available on this Long Range handgunning/shooting, IMHO.

Don

Some 1970-80 vintage Rem HP, I found I had stashed in the back of the reloading room, and the son and G-son didn't find. :o
Attempting to find some reasonble priced 22 Target ammo that is NOT $25+ p/50rd box. >:(

Tia,
Don

Buy a case of ammo first then get the recommended reamer and you might be lucky. You can approach the cost of 22 target ammo by reloading 223, I can reload it cheaper if I don't use a match bullet.

You might want to take a look at what is on this site, and give these folks a call about ammo. http://www.killoughshootingsports.com/index.php/home/
I don't believe that there is a hazmat charge on loaded ammo.

I saw where Eley Tenx was $.38/per round, I recently bought some 75gr match bullets for $.15. Primers are about $.03 and powder adds about $.11

Thanks Guys,

Going back to the question, Which ammo should I start with?
Then which reamer design for that ammo?

I didn't realize THAT many different types of MATCH 22 Rimfire ammo,
as target/match in the 22 RF flavor is a NEW page for this Old book,
as I know NOTHING about the 22 RF match/target end.

I'll call Dave on Monday, that should be some help to get me started in the right direction,
on which reamer to start with, as the first reamer is not going to work for the target ammo end, I can see.

BA,
Thank you for the info,
is there other RF sites that deal on match/target rimfire for the LONG RANGE shooting end?

Tia,
Don

Don, Keep us posted on your progress with the 22 RF. Several of us are playing with different things to take to Ernies next year. Should be lots of fun.

IF,
I had planned on sharing with the SP gang,
I got to give Super Munk a run for his money,
I can't let Hoggin have all the fun etc. ;D

I may ship this to Ernie and let him play with it, as I don't think I can get out there??

Still waiting for DK to ship the match reamer, so I can get the bbl done,
then sort out this match ammo thing etc.

Tia,
Don
