Best powder for 87 gr V-max in 6mmBr

I am currently using 31.5 grains of Varget in a standard 6mmBr case with 87 grain V-max's and getting 3050 to 3075 fps. I was wondering if there was another powder choice to get more velocity?

This is strictly for PD shooting. Any info appreciated!

Barrel length is 27 inches and 29 inches. Twist rates are both 1 in 8.

I will try N135. What charge do you use?

Vegeta, what is your accuracy like. Also, what type of lead is your barrel throated with? Have you tried a bit more Varget or are you already seeing pressure signs with the load your using? If your accuracy is really good, I would not mess with anything. 3075fps with the 87grn V-Max should be deadly out to around 600 yards.

Keep me informed on your progress with N135. I am having a 6BR built, and I will be using the 87grn V-Max too. I will be using a Bartlein 28", 1-8 twist barrel throated with a .100 lead. I am interested in hearing how much more velocity you get with N135. I am going to try Varget with the 87grn V-Max and 105grn A-Max.

I has able to break 3100fps w/ H4895. acuracy was OK but I slowed it back down to 3050-much better. I think 3000-3100fps is the most your going to get from a 6br & a 87Vmax. You got to remember, how`s your load going to shoot in the dessert heat too. Ive found no better than H4895. Varget is OK if you can live with the lot inconcistancy...

Patch, do you think H4895 would be a better powder to use over Varget for the 87grn and 105grn Bullets. I've read many threads that say Varget works best for the heavier bullets. I guess I will get a pound of H4895 and try it out.

I use Varget for the 105`s, it`s slower than 4895 so you get better velocity. Best bet is to get a bunch of one lot and work w/ it. Pick a hot day to do your load development so you don`t have any surprizes when your out in the patch. The H4895 should`nt let you down for those 87`s. Good luck with your build. You`ll luv it...
