best powder choice in my .35 whelen 7600 pump 22in barrel

guys I'm looking for a little experience on powder choice for reloading my whelen. in the past i have use aa 2015 with 200 hornady sp. and have been using sierra 225 game kings loaded hot with h335. i have had good accuracy and very good killing power on whitetails the only reason i would like to change is the muzzle flash is crazy.. i would be also interested in maximizing velocity with the 225 from 22in of barrel. if you have experience with this weight bullet from the whelen i welcome your thoughts. thanks, pat

I have a Springfield '03 in 35. Whelen(standard) that I use 56gn of IMR4320,Speer 250gn Spitzer for 2500fps. I have used 57gn/IMR4320 with Sierra 225's for 2550fps,but I like the 250 Speer better. My barrel is 24.5" Douglas w/ a 1/12tw. I don't have any experience with other powders. My rifle will shoot 5 shot groups of about .7-.8" @ 100yds and AROUND 2" @ 200yds. It's all I could ask for in a medium range medium bore rifle........I LOVE it. Good luck.

I have used R15 with good results and high mv with 225 gr. bullets, around 2775fps.
However, I am using bolt action rifle.
Muzzle flash is not excessive.

thanks guys i have the rl 15 and was leaning toward it. i will give it a try. i am happy with the results of the sgk 225 on whitetail, i just dont want to lose anything but the muzzle flash. in dusk and dawn conditions its like a mini howitzer.. been shooting that gun for over 10 yrs and have never lost a single animal.

The SGK has never failed me on deer. Kills like lightening. Early on, I tried some RN 200's and they lacked penetration. On a frontal shot the deer would turn and run about 25yds. Problem was lack of a blood trail to track them in the dark. They were all dead but were not that easy to find in heavy brush.

Ditto on RL15. Good stuff. Might also take a look at TAC and Big Game. I'm liking Ramshot powders better every time I use them
