Best performing short action 6.5

I am looking to build a 6.5 on a short action. Have looked in to the 260 and the 6.5x47. What else is there that is easy to reload, has available brass and can shoot the 140 gr bullets well?

Thanks.

Well that question could mean diffrent things to diffrent folks.

I like the long range hunting so for me the 6.5x284 or 6.5wsm fits the bill best. But I shoot a 260 rem thats a 1200+ yrd deer gun all day long.

I just had a .260 put together and am really impressed with it's performance thus far - seems to not really 'hate' anything bullet-wise. Brass is a little bit of a challenge, but what isn't now-a-days as only Remington and Norma seem to be reliable vendors. Here's a pic of it,... ain't she pretty :)

It's an AICS,Accuracy International Chassis System). It's their 2.0 model - they sell a 1.0, a 1.5, and a 2.0 that has a folding stock. I've been able to stick the whole rifle into some pretty small bags for carry. :)

The 6.5 WSM is a barrel burner. There are a couple of cartridges in that family that work real well though. They are the 6.5-243WSSM and the 6.5-25WSSM. I shoot the 6.5-243WSSM with a .300 neck and it seems to shoot real well. I have two of them. One on a long action and one on a short action. One has a 1:8 twist Hart barrel and the one I shoot normally in competition has a 1:8.5 Bartlein barrel.

I have to say it's hard to go wrong with the 6.5 x 47. Great brass, but expensive excellent accuracy. My sako shoots teh Lapua 123's quiote well.

Ryan or anyone else interested, if you have a hard time finding brass you can do what I have been doing for my 7-08. I use Lapua 308 brass and neck it down. I have a forming die with a series of bushings. I get it close with those and then run it through a 7-08 FL sizing die.
This should work fine to form 260 brass. Heck it would cost postage, but if you don't have a forming die available, send the brass to me and I'll get it close enough to go through you FL or neck dies. I can go down to 6MM with the bushings I have. If interested, send me an email Jim's E-mail
Just figured I throw that out.
Take what you want and leave the rest.
Jim
PS
I have a 6.5 Bartlein barrel on order and am leaning towards a 260 or maybe a 260AI.
