Best Die Sets ????

looking at buying another 338 Lapua Die set( sold the Redding when I sold the rifle... )
Which dies do you prefer ? All of our current dies are Redding. Just asking...

Redding makes wonderful dies and as already stated, you can't go wrong with them.

Forster is also worth looking at. I bought my first set just recently for a 6.5x47 and had Forster hone the FL die to give about .0015" neck tension.

The Forster seating die is very similar to the redding but much less expensive. Total for the micrometer seating die and FL die plus honing was just over $100.

But, in the same caliber I also have Redding neck and body dies.

I use redding full length sizing neck bushing - sizer dies, then wilson seating dies with an arbor press... thia combo works very well for me.

Whidden dies are good, forster dies are good... customs dies are good.. all depends on how much you want to spend.

Forster dies are my favorite. The custom neck hone service is outstanding, plus they are great folks to talk to. Barlow

As per the title of the post, best die set, i personally think a custom made die with the reamer the rifle is chambered with is about as best as you can get...

You won't have a very good sizing die using a chambering reamer!

If you like your Redding dies now you should keep using Redding dies....

Far more "truthful" than the original I borrowed from I think. Most of mine are Redding with one or two Forster seaters and an RCBS here or there. Just ordered a set in 284WIN from Whidden though, mostly just 'cause I want to try his product. The rifles he's built for me are winners, even if I'm not.

For custom dies I always recommend Neil jones. His bushing die is unique and none on the market like it. Plus his sizing die also has a micrometer setting and bumping is very repeatable.

With my redding type S for my 300WM I'm getting huge variances in shoulder bump. Even with cam over to ensure same press strength and amount of brass sized I still get variances.

I just sent him my fired cases for his FL sizing die. I own one for a 260 and it's been a really sound purchase

If you're really looking for the best set, a chamber type bullet seater and WTC sizing die :) The best will cost you.

If money is a concern, Forster, Hornady or Redding will work.
