Best consistency in bullet manufacturers?

Something I have gotten from several of my past threads is that the bullets that I thought were top of the heap are fairly inconsistent in tolerances.

Maybe that's the nature of the process I don't know.

I have tried SMK and Lapua Scenars and was going to try some Bergers but I'm hearing their consistency is about the same as the others.

Can you recommend bullet manufacturers that have higher tolerances? Someone mentioned Barts in another thread. But as many of you know I do not shoot BR, so I need .30 cal bullts for .308

Thanks

I see from a previous post you have a Rem 700 SPS in .308. Can you tell us about your rest set-up, type of shooting bench, typical ranges shot (100 yds?) do you use windflags?, able to load at the range? # of rounds you fire for group? Type of rifle scope? It would be good information for us to know so that we may prevent you from blasting powder and bullets away without learning anything.

If you want consistency go to www.cuttingedgebullets.com and you will be there. Simply take them out of box and seat according to their instructions and you will be having fun. Or without going full blown custom bullets, you can always try JLK's or keep sorting like we have talked about in your previous threads. The cutting edge projectiles are over a buck a piece. I have some 6MM 100 grainers coming just to play with. They make 2 weights in .308. There is no easy answer, just more trigger time will get it done. :)

i'm new to reloading and didn't realize bullets varied so much. When sorting, how is that done, ie by weight, length, or how? Great info on this forum. I'm really enjoying the info you folks share.

Of the 6mm flat base bullets I've measured body diameter on, the best have been some Sierra 75 grain. Interestingly the Sierra's have no pressure ring. They measure the same at the base as the body. I've also measured some Berger 68's which were next best in consistency, followed by some Bart's Ultra 68. However, the Bart's Ultra is a tapered bullet, and I suspect I was getting some error due to positioning of the micrometer at different points in the taper. Both the Bart's and Berger have an easily measurable pressure ring.

Regardless of shooting discipline, if you want .308 bullets a cut much above the rest, here are your best sources:
