Best chronograph

Couldn’t find anything posted within recent years, I was curious to see what others think is the most accurate and best preforming Chronograph in 2022?

I really like my Magnetospeed. Going forward with this thread, you will hear all manner of people talk down about is because it hangs off of the bbl. There are several work a rounds to solve that problem.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

Look up Andiscan by F-Class John.

There is nothing on the market that would make me sell my Lab Radar.

Is the Andiscan available in the US?

I’ve been considering a lab radar but I’ve heard they are a pain in the ass to set up

I guess that would depend on the individual needs. These days I am only shooting SR/BR, so for my needs, it is more of a curiosity than anything else, post-load development. For SR the target tells me ( with the help of the wind flags ) what I need to know......So with all that being said, I picked up a Magnetospeed Sporter here on the classifieds for $100. shipped and it does everything I need it to do. But I DID check it out against the Ohler I have sitting here.........If I were able to get back to LR/BR and didn't have the Ohler already I may POP for the Lab Radar. I have seen a few of them in use and when properly set up they ARE very nice.

Regards
Rick

For those that had the lab radar, would I come out ahead buying the Andiscan for $1000 versus having to buy all of the accessories to go with the lab radar?

Not really. Labradar you need a base and I’d recommend an external battery. It won’t total a $1000.00.

With the Andiscan you’re paying for its size and portability. It’s about the size of a deck of cards. The screen is small so if you don’t have good eye sight or a pair of glasses it’s not for you. It also takes a little while getting use to operating it.

I have only used a Labradar and a Caldwell optical unit and if I had it to do over I would buy the Labradar again. I didn't think I would need the external trigger since it worked fine without it but when I started using it with AR's and muzzle breaks it missed shots so I bought one and it works flawlessly.
For external batteries I just use a small jump box. It runs the Labradar and my barrel cooler all day.

It all is a matter of personal taste and individual need.
I used various versions of the Chrony for many years but got really tired of having to waste so much time getting everything set up perfectly ...screens, distance, lighting and etc. I don't need to spend half my shooting time setting up equipment or take out a mortgage to buy a chronograph. I recently bought a Magnetospeed and I love it. Yes, it can affect the point of impact (but that depends on the particular rifle...I have five that aren't affected and two that are), but I really don't understand why that's such a big deal. I'm not one who tunes loads for velocity 'nodes' while looking for a specific speed. My practice is to work up the most accurate loads on paper and then run enough through the Magnetospeed for reliable velocity recordings. The accuracy work of the loads comes first; the velocity is secondary and used for plotting velocity for extended ranges. I'm not stuck on the idea of the fastest loads. I look for the most accurate. 99.9% of my shooting doesn't require a chronograph being used.
Many complain about wasted components when testing accuracy on paper and speed separately but I always have "pulled" bullets from loads that weren't up to expectation (regardless of caliber) that I wouldn't depend on for accuracy. Those work just fine for speed tests with a few cents for powder and a few primers.
I don't compete...just shoot informally; gophers and groundhogs and the occasional coyote, so maybe competitors feel the need for doing things differently, but the Magnetospeed works for me.

One advantage with the Andiscan seems to be that it does not need to be hooked up to a screen or to a phone, not that's necessarily a big deal, just seems to make it simpler to operate. Still on the fence whether to get the Andiscan or the BulletSeeker. Heard a recent app has fixed a bug in the early BulletSeeker for iphone users.

So I would love to have a Labradar/Andiscan/bulletseeker but the wallet isn’t wanting it right now. I have a slew of cabelas points so I could get a magneto speed basically for free depending on how you feel the points haha

Does anyone notice that the magneto speed affects grouping or only POI?

If properly secured to the barrel and not left to flop around, POI only. Again: I only use mine after I have established an accurate load...not while trying to develop it.

Where I am getting hung up and having doubts is I am currently trying to develop a sub sonic load using copper solids. So it would be nice to be able to both group and check velocity at the same time versus 3 to 5 shots for grouping than five shots for velocity Only to find out my load is not subsonic And I sent $8 to $10 worth of bullets alone down range haha

Magneto's work fine too. But your POI will be affected once it is on or off.
I use the Magneto for averaging my FPS, so poi does not matter at that point of use. I then sight in for POI, after I find a load that is accurate and what I want. So how the POI may change on or off, is a mute point.
