Best Butane Mini-Torch?

Brians356

I am looking for a butane mini-torch. They are commonly sold as "culinary torches" for caramelizing, and there are many reviews with that in mind, but I need one that will last longer than a few uses, and that has:

Reliable, easy ignition system
Adjustable flame
Stability standing on its base
Hands-free "on" feature
Low-fuel window

What models have you chaps had success with for annealing and general purpose soldering etc?

I have this company's product and like it. The one I have is the Pro - Torch 500.
It will do all you listed except anneal brass, the flame is to small and very hot.
Also no fuel level window. I like mine a lot.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how a flame created by a consumer-grade butane torch could be "too hot" for annealing brass, can you expand on that? (Is that torch hotter than a typical handyman's propane torch?)

The esteemed Ken Howell stated in his book that "'hot enough'" is not hot enough". One can always move the brass farther away from the flame, and/or shorten the exposure time.

I stand ready to be educated!

I use then at work for soldering. I have had no problems with this one http://www.amazon.com/Master-Appliance-MT-76-Trigger-Soldering/dp/B000BHNYIW
I had cheaper ones and they all leaked.

Does it have hands-free "on" feature? (I think it must if it is for soldering.)

PS

Never mind, I see it does have hands-free.

Thanks!

They work good and are viraciously hot. I used to use one for a cigarette lighter until I stupidly cupped my hand and burned a hole in the web of my right thumb. It was the most painful burn I ever had. It would work great on thin cases being spun in a socket powered by a drill.

I ordered one from Amazon. Thanks!
