I just picked up a HOWA 1500 .243 Youth model (20" barrel) for my grandson, he is one week old today. Never too early right
.
It will eventually be his 'starter' rifle however, I intend to put some 'marks' on the stock before I give it to him; most likely, deer and coyotes.
The long and short of what I have read, for shooting out to 400 yds or so, the consensus seems to be to go with 75-90 grain, flat based (non- boat-tail) bullets for rifles with barrels having a 1:10. I am thinking about loading an 85-90 grn bullet.
Anyone have any specific experience hand-loading for this particular rifle ?
If so, what brand/type bullet, bullet weight, powder, grns of powder did you find performs well ?
I realize each individual gun can prefer one bullet manufacturer/style/weight over another. I reload pretty much every major mfg of bullet in my various rifles/pistols however I don't know anyone who reloads a .243, so I have no personal 'reference base' of reloaders to inquire of.
Any assistance is much appreciated.
