best brass

Hello everyone ;D

Haven't visited this site for probably some years :-[ I know my questions have been visited a million times, so sorry for the redundancy.
At the present time, who is making the best 6MM brass? I have a restoration project; to rebarrel an ole' 03 (800,00 plus) to 22-6MM.
Am I beating a arcahic cartridge? Are some of the short magnums a platform for the performance I'm looking for?
I see there are some small primer, .308 brass on the market. Think the .220 Jaybird used that case, but read somewhere you lost way too many during forming.
Is there, or was there, another wildcat that used that case successfully? Memory ain't what it used to was!!
Apologize for some mis-spelling :-[

God Bless

Lapua is considered the best at the present. They offer 6mmBR, .243 Win, 6.5x47, and I believe .22-250, most of these are used as is, or formed to something hopefully better.

Lapua is making small primer .308 brass. I would use Lapua for a wildcat based on the .308 case, it's better quality than most and will likely last longer.

After trying Lapua brass, it has been just about all I use for accuracy purposes. I use Winchester or Mil-Surp. brass for my 30-06 hunting rifle, but only because it's likely to be lost.

I have three 6mm Remington rifles and Winchester brass is the best quality "native" brass available. It has a slightly higher defect percentage than Lapua and requires more case prep but offers similar life. Some lots have been very uniform, others less so. It is also priced reasonably. Remington 6mm brass has good uniformity but does not last as long as Winchester. I have used both to good effect in my rifles.

You should consider the plain 6mm as an alternative to the .22-6mm. The 6mm Remington is already overbore and does not have stellar barrel life. The .22-6mm would be worse. In a 26" 6mm Rem barrel, over a stiff charge of Varget, Hornady's 58g V-Max gives me 4050 fps and ½ MOA accuracy.

Hi badshotlol,

I have a 22-6mm and have been using Winchester brass in the 6mm rem as the parent case. Not to many choices for the 22-6mm. I have just bought some Norma cases in 7x57 and have formed them form that.

Good luck,

Tim
