Best brass swager

I've got some LC 09 308 brass and I am able to prime the cases with a CPS, but it does require some extra power to seat the primer. The 5 reloads that I tried w/o swaging gave me some great groups with low es. Is there a problem with seating the primers w/o the swaging, as I don't see any deformation of the primers themselves.

If it is necessary to swage, what swager to use?

The hornady lock n load brass swager is the best in my opinion. You can dial in the amount of swage. You can swage as fast as you can pull the handle.

I prefer to cut rather than sewage but that being said unprocessed pockets would seem to lend inconsistency in how the seating went. I may well be overly concerned but I have the time to put in an brass prep.

I'm going to assume they are crimped, you don't say. Occasionally a new primer may catch on the crimp and deform during seating. No other real issue.
Thanks for that information jepp. Obviously, I'm trying to be cheap......I have measured the seating depths and they are within 1-2 thou's. using the cps.

I use an RCBS primer pocket swager. It has always worked for me for Lake City and S&B brass. I never tried any other swaging product to compare to it.

Another item, never mentioned when the topic of swaging primer pockets arrives.......many brands of brass (in the same caliber), have different case head thicknesses.

Lee APP is completely adjustable - knurled knob on the bottom, adjusts height of the swager.

The primer pocket will never grow tighter, only looser, so I wouldn't loosen it by swaging unless necessary. If you can prime without, then skip it; a small cut chamfer at the mouth might help, but I like a square-ish corner to constrain primer extrusion.

When I swage, I do as little as possible, with the RCBS tool. Once sorted by headstamp, it's as fast as any.

Best is a personal choice. For me a good one, that has worked for years on crimped primer pockets, is the RCBS swaging kit. Simple to use, set up and it works just fine.

Exactly my point. Lee APP with the swager, allows EASY adjustment of swaging depth.

If you are able to prime with out swaging do so I have wasted so much time either cutting or swaging crimped primer pockets just to find out they are already to loose just passed the crimp, I highly recommend the Dillon I have tried every other and the super swage is the easiest to use, Now I toss any crimped brass life is to short to mess with it, Maybe next week I'll sell my super swager

Dillon SSwage.
Prob stole this off here or YouTube. Use rubber bands to wrap the rocker. The case on the spindle needs to be under pressure when swaging. Releasing allows it to fly off. Set up a heavy jacket or rug on a "tree" and catch container for case to fall into. It really speeds things up having the swaged case flip out of the way. Abt doubles the speed. A C clamp to attach the rubber bands to get quickly adjustable tension is a hint.
My swager is mounted on a wooden slabwhich I clamp to my bench.
