"Best" Bench Rest stand.

Ok guy's in your opinion what is the best bench rest stand made and if you have places they may be purchased would be a great help.

The search function is your friend, as is providing a better (less redundant?) description of what device you're after.

As to the notion of "best", there is none. It always depends on the person and the circumstances. I suggest you look for "good enough". ;)

I'll second what gunamonth & Nate Haler said. My first response was "what in the hell is a benchrest stand"? Your question is too ambiguous to answer. ???

I must get more specific, A "front shooting rest", similar to (Sinclair Gen II BR Rest, Bald Eagle) I hope this proves to better understand what devise I'm asking for feedback on.

rcheliman: Yes, now we're in business. I have and use the Sinclair Generation 11 with the windage adjustable top. A really great design improvement over my older Gen.1. it is heavy, at approx. 17 pounds, but does not move around during recoil like some of the lighter ones. Spray the front bag with silicon and the 2 1/4" and 3" flat bottom stock forends slide smoothly back & forth like it's on roller bearings. Adjustable forend stop is a copy of the Bald Eagle, and a big improvement over the older design that was basically non-adjustable. For concrete benchtops I use the Tru-Kote Superfeet (#04-190) to protect the pointed legs, and the concrete surface of the bench. On a wood top bench, the pointed tips are solidly "into" the wood preventing any movement. Many other excellent front rests out there to choose from. :)

lots of great front rests out there

the "best" is what your pocketbook can afford and works best for "you" on the bench

I like my John Loh rest

what is the best for me, may not be the best for you

some people are bag pinchers, and some like the W/E gadgets

rcheliman: An additional thought: The choice would depend a lot on the type of rifle you will be using. If it's the traditional bolt-action with somewhat of a flat forend, then all of the above mentioned front rests would be an excellent choice. If it's the traditional hunting/sporter type stock with a rounded and sometimes very narrow forend, then you will have the torqueing & twisting especially if it's one of the heavier recoiling ctgs. A flat forend adapter would be an asset. if it's a single-shot, like a Ruger #1 with the drop down lever for reloading, that would be a problem with the above rests. Same holds true for an AR with the rounded forend, unless you use one of the flat adapters, as made by Robert Whitley. trust me, I 've been there/done that with the Ruger #1 & my AR's: they work best, (for me) when used with a plain old hard packed front sand bag with bunny ears. So, what I'm saying is that you must match-up the type of front rest with the type of firearm being used.
