A bit of change of pace – from 308 at 600 yards to .22lr at 50 yards with a Ruger American Rimfire rifle.
I have tried several types of ammo with this rifle, a 2013 Christmas present from my wife, including several flavors of CCI, Remington and RWS, and so far the RWS Target Rifle has been the most accurate; capable of 1/2" 5-shot groups at 50 yards shooting from a bipod.
The problem is that the RWS Target Rifle ammo, normally available at places such as Champion Shooters Supply and Champions Choice, has not been in stock for a long while. I tried the slightly more expensive RWS Rifle Match ammo, which is available, but it did not do as well as the Target Rifle ammo.
At Cabela’s yesterday they had a brand I have never tried, Eley. These were in a black box with the name “Remington†across the top, and “Eley†on the side, made in the UK. I believe it was their Match ammo, but I am not sure if that is what the box said as well. These were $20 (well, 19.99) each.
I don’t like the idea of buying more 22LR at $10 to $20 for a 50-round box for evaluation, so I thought I would ask:
To anyone who has the Ruger American Rimfire rifle - what ammo have you found to be most accurate?
Thank you!
