Best .38/.357 rifle bullet

I'd like to know what you've found to be the best cast bullet to shoot in a .38/.357 single shot rifle.
How much does barrel twist rate have on the weight of the bullet and it's accuracy~?

I tried 158gr cast with gas checks and 148gr BBWC but found better results from one type of inexpensive plated and another jacketed type. Interested in what they are shoot me a PM. My tests were done with an Uberti Baby rolling block at 50yds

In a rifle, I'd be more inclined to use a heavier bullet, 173, 180 or so for serious plinking and a little heavier for hunting. And twist rate came make or break a bullet. They fly much better with the correct twist. Do you know the twist of your barrel? What rifle do you have?

I wouldn't shoot cast bullets in my Henry .357 Lever action.
I have recently obtained some 140 gr Hornady FTX bullets, and those are the bullet of choice
for a .357 rifle IMHO. Much better ballistics with the pointed tip. I haven't developed a load yet, but the
Hornady manual covers it well.


For now my rifle likes 158gr jacketed flat points, and shoots them well. Cast bullets would lead my barrel IMHO. So they are ruled out, for me.
If you must use lead bullets, keep your velocities well under 1100 FPS
