Best 20 cal barrel

Im looking to rebarrel my remington 204 varmint rifle and would like some advice on what make of 204 barrel to get.
I have read good reports on pac-nor or should I go for a Bartlein or Krieger or something else.

Lilja makes a good 20 cal barrel. I have barreled kreiger, pac nor, lilja and a premium douglas in several 20 cal configurations. 204, 20 practical, 20 tac, 20x47L and 20br. They all have worked very well with a slight edge to the last premium Douglas in 20br, 9tw shooting 55gr bergers. The next one is a pac nor in a 20x250. Take your pick, I think you will be happy with any of the above.

Thanks,

Kyle

I am not saying others places don't have good barrels but right now Rock Creek is my choice. I have several barrels in 20cal and all are top notch. They are a bit cheaper than the others aswell. Also they don't list them on their site so call and ask. Adam

I have a .20 Tac with a 1x11 Krieger barrel, it shoots the 40 Vmax as good as the 40gr Berger, 40 Gunhaus, 40 Nosler or 40 Sierra. If(not when) I buy another .20 cal barrel it will be a Krieger!

I have had a few Pac-Nor barrels in the past.

The 20's come with a 3 groove and 7"-8, 8.5-9-10-11-12-13-16 twists available.

No downside , you will love it.

A friend bought a couple of the highest grade BAT benchrest rifles and had one barreled in .20 PPC with, I believe, one in 11 twist Lilja barrels. (He bought two.) The rifle has the best of everything, BAT action, BAT cedar and carbon fiber stock, and since he was not going to compete with it (and have to worry about weight limits), the highest power Nightforce benchrest scope. It has been a spectacularly accurate rifle, winning in competition as a 6PPC before he bought it, and producing many groups in the .1s as a .20. He uses 40 gr. Bergers, and 133. One could argue that a full sized PPC case is over capacity for a .20, but looking at his targets, evidently, in this case, theory and fact do not agree.

palo, Lilja stocks the 20 cal 1-12 twist Sendero varmint profile barrels, mine was here in GA in less than a week. It shoots very well, broke in quick & doesn't have any fouling problems. If I was you that is what I'd go for.

Have never heard one bad thing about Pac-Nor barrels from any of my friends who've tried them. Thinking bout trying one myself.

I have a Stainless Mcgowen 1 in 12 rwist 20 cal barrel on my 20 VarTarg and it is extremely forgiving. Will shoot over 10 loads under 1/2 MOA and a handful under 1/4 MOA.

I went with Hart because I needed a 9 twist very happy with the barrel it shoots very well. The 20 BR with 55 grain Bergers is pretty nasty.

Just stay away from Lilja barrels.
No offense to Lilja fans, but every Lilja barrel I've dealt with has been extremely finnicky compared to other brands. Once you find a good load, a Lilja will shoot the lights out, but that perfect load always seems to require LOT more testing with a Lilja. Dealt with Lilja barrels on a .280 AI, 6.5-300 WSM, and a .358 Norma. Other barrels I've dealt with (Krieger, McGowen, Douglas, Shilen) seem to be much more forgiving and will find good loads and generally give multiple accurate options with minimal range visits.

Lilja just isn't worth the money for the headache IMO.

I was born and raised in Montana so that"s why I bought Lilja barrels. I was hoping that a barrel from my home state would be my favorite. But they aren't :(

McGowen is from Montana as well and is 10 times more forgiving than any Lilja barrel I've tried, so that gives me a little home state pride : )

Keep in mind that this is all just my personal experience. Others will surely feel differently in many cases.
