Thanks Guys !!

I have a 338 EDGE and fixed another one up for a friend of mine. Both used my own reamer with a loaded length using the Berger 300 Hunting hybrid @ 4.09 OAL. I started with 50 pieces of REM brass for my edge and later bought 100 of the Bertrom brass from Shawn to use when the "crappy" Rem brass went south. The other Edge has only seen Bertrom brass.

First off, my "crappy" rem brass never really was crappy!! Every one said that the primer pockets on the Rem brass would give out right away. Mine didn't get to bad...I am on my 7th firing of 91G H1000 @ 2840 FPS and the pockets are just now getting loose. Of course with such a long OAL and moderate velocity I wasn't to hard on it. I did a little expermenting with it a few years ago when I first got the Bertrom brass.....The newest, hottest thing in the edge world was RL33. I only shot a few groups and was getting psi and shiney ejector marks. So, I shelved that whole RL33/Bertrom brass thing till my Rem brass went south...which is just now happening. I did not use the chrono with that limited test. Complete load workup with the new brass and RL 33 is comming, but not at 20 below!! I'll wait till spring now.

My buddys Edge runs the same Berger Hunting 300 at the same 2840 FPS....but with 92 grains of H1000 and the Bertrom brass. I see ZERO issues with PSI and accuracy is stellar to say the least with that combo.

Now, I did a little weight testing with them just yesterday.....I found the Bertrom brass to be only slightly heavier .....by about 7 grains. As far as weight varinace, I had about a 7 -8 grain ES with the Rem brass and about 3 grain ES with the Bertrom . On brass this big and heavy I would call it a wash in weight, but the Bertrom brass had about 1/2 the weight ES.

If I had the time and was set up for it , I would load 1 pc of the Bertrom brass over and over and see how long it lasts. For the $3.00 pr piece I paid, it better last!!

I haven't heard of any dissapointments with the Bertrom brass. In fact, with today's better bullets and brass, I may chamber one up for my 85 pound HG for 1000 BR for those "not so pleasant" days.

Good luck,
Tod

Almost the same experience as above; more variances in the RP brass(150 pieces of 300 RUM) but the pockets are holding so far at 5 firings of Cutting Edge 275 Lazer 102 grains RL33 @3019fps. I played with a couple Bertram and have to decrease the charge a little for the same velocity. When my RP runs out I will rework a new load with a different powder as RL33 gets very sensitive above ~83F.
BTW there is new brass out for the Edge, RUM, etc. with good reviews so far.

Thanks 4x & wedgy,
- Can I ask if either of you have tried Norma or Nosler 300 RUM brass necked up to the Edge ? - And if so how did it compare (to Bertram brass) ?
- I have plenty of both Norma & Nosler in 300 RUM and it's a simple process to run it through .323 & then .338 mandrels to get it necked up (then neck turned for my chamber).
- I also have the die set (Redding) from Shawn @ Defensive Edge which has the .308 to .338 special expander.
- I'm just looking for options before I push ahead with loading for the 338 Edge. -

On the WSM I've been running Norma (and a small batch of Nosler) and been satisfied so far. - Just trying to gain some insight from those who've ran the Bertram brass to see if it's worth pursuing.

Again, Thanks - Ron

My opinion do not bother with Bertram brass if you already have Nosler and Norma. Like I said I have no problem with the Remington rum brass and would assume that both the Norma and the Nosler are even better. My EDGE ( Remington 700 action, 31 inch Brux BBL in a McMillan A5 stock with the Rem brass) and my friend's Edge (BAT action, 31 inch Brux in an A5 shooting Bertram brass) shoot IDENTICAL....IN HUNTIG GUNS. If it was for thousand-yard benchrest quality groups I would certainly do more testing.
