Berry’s recommends 1.060 c.o.a.l
My sig p938 9mm shot fine with them,did the plunk test,all was good,crimp .378
My Springfield 911 9mm I had to go down to 1.045 for these to pass the plunk test and crimp at .377
Will this still be ok to shoot!

Berry's and any reloading manual OAL suggestions are ball park guesstimates. Read Wobbly's post below and look at his excellent illustrations and bullet setback for "your" chamber.

To answer your specific question we need more data. Powder type and charge and cases used. Some are more touchy about reduced volume than others. Your pressures will be higher. But how much we can’t say without data.

I have a 9mm that won’t accept some factory hollow points. So there are 9mm chambers that are very tight.

I shoot a couple of different 9mm platforms, and each has a slightly different OAL. For reloading ease I selected an OAL that would work for all of my guns. For plinking or most shooting sports (other than bullseye type shooting) the accuracy is more than sufficient.

Your question is a bit vague. Are you asking, "For a given load, if I reduce the OAL will the load continue to be safe?" It seems like your question is about the sensitivity/danger of potential pressure increase/spike that might result from loading to a shorter OAL? Without knowing more about your reload (amount and type of powder) it is hard to state the effect.

A simpler solution would be download to a safe powder charge (see reloading manuals) with the shorter OAL, and then gradually build up from there. Look for pressure signs...primer indentation, primer shifting in pocket, case expansion on spent cases (extractor groove mark from having to pull tight case out of chamber), etc.

I shoot ALOT of Berry 124gr RN 9mm bullets.... I load them with lead data not fmj data because with the powder I load the fmj data would be fast fast fast.... They like a long coal to keep pressure down... Since there's basically no data I loaded hotter till the cases weren't so sooty , basically to get the cases to seal the chamber... The data with win231 was 3.8 to 4.4 grains... I settled at 4.2gr to give me alot of plus or minus if a mistake was to occur.... Originally they wanted 1.150 at the hodgens site but a year later it was pushed to 1.160 and I never changed... You can use a caliper on one bullet and it be 1.150 , the next 1.14 because of the difference in the bullets...

Ok ,here we go after that...

If your not seeing bad things , getting good primer pocket life etc your good to go.... Shoot them across your crono and actually see how fast they are flying... I see different measurements (COAL ) in Berry's bullets by that much or close all the time so if your not hot loading them there shouldn't be a problem... As far as crimp I was told by Berry's to apply a light crimp to the bullets.... They will take a BUNCH of crimp without breaking the coating but if you get to much accuracy will/might suffer...

All in all unless your really pushing the limits , I don't think you will have a problem...

Check their ( clays powder ) webpage for load data for lead bullets , start from there... At least you know you will be safe... The Lyman manual has lead data also....

Hodgdon lists 4.4 as max at 1.050 max pal... I’d load 4.0 or 4.2 and live with that unless I need to make a power factor or something...
