Berger VLD 30 cal 168 vs 175gr

Looking at trying a lighter bullet in the Tikka T3 (1:11) in 300WSM. Really leaning towards the Berger 168gr VLD (30510) or 175gr VLD (30512). Hoping to pair with H4350. Curious as to real world experience in this platform with these two.

Don't overlook the 168 Hybrid. It has one of the highest BCs available in the 168 gr weight class of .30 cal bullets and can be loaded with excellent precision.

Getting ready to try some 185 Jugs in a T3x with magazine, I have high hopes

Capable of outstanding accuracy at 1K in 1:13 twist until the wind kicks up.
The OP asked about using lighter weight .30 cal bulets. Unfortunately, increased wind deflection is a product of lighter bullet weight and its effect on BC. The 168 Hybrids have an extremely high BC for their weight and will do as well as well or better in the wind than any other bullet in the 168-175 gr weight class. However, they will not equal the better quality bullets in the 200+ gr weight class.

I shoot the 168 with h4350 in a savage 116, 3070 FPS, 1/2 moa all day, winchester brass. Fed 215

Here is my history with this rifle. Prior to starting reloads, which was recent, I shot the Hornady precision rifle hunter which uses the Hornady 200gr ELD-X. I'm not a strong shooter but was getting steel out to 500yards. As I started reloading I purchased some of the said 200gr ELD-X. I couldn't find any 4831SC so bought some IMR4955 based on other recommendations. I haven't taken it to long ranges yet but so far shoots well. The IMR4955 is one of the discontinued Enduron powders, so I wanted to look at alternate recipes.

With the 1:11 twist, I've been told that I'd have better success/options with something in a lower grain (ie 168, 175, or 185). I'm trying to do things on a budget and without several range trips, so in lieu of buying various bullets/powders and trying a huge array, I'm trying to find some loads that others have had success with as a starting point. I have some h4350, so it would be great to use that for this load combo if possible.

I was talking about bc ……
According to Sierra, the G1 BCs for the 169 SMK are: 0.527 @ 2180 fps and above, 0.505 between 1540 and 2180 fps, and 0.445 @ 1540 fps and below. If one uses the highest of these values (i.e. 0.527), which is going to be higher than the average G1 BC, that still translates to a G7 BC of approximately 0.269. The advertised average G7 BC of the 168 Hybrid according Berger is 0.264. No one is going to be able to reliably shoot a G7 BC difference of 0.269 versus 0.264. In fact, it is highly likely that BC variance within a single Lot# of bullets would actually exceed this .005 "advertised" BC difference.

However, there is more to the story. The 169 SMKs are pointed at the factory, and the benefit of the pointing process is included in the advertised BC. The Berger 168 Hybrids are not pointed at the factory. Thus, the end user can point them at home and reliably increase the advertised BC by ~4 to 6%. At a minimum, that would boost the G7 BC of the 168 Hybrid to about 0.275. In my hands, pointed 168 Hybrids routinely yielded G7 BC estimates of ~0.280 from LabRadar velocity drop data, which seems to be a slight overestimate based on drop at the target face. Nonetheless, I still wouldn't call that a marked BC difference between the two bullets. I have used the 168 Hybrids a fair bit in F-TR shooting and been very impressed with their performance. Although I haven't personally loaded the 169 SMKs (yet), a friend has used them at a local 600 yd F-Class match. I was also very impressed with the results they generated. I really don't think one would go wrong using either one of these bullet designs, and both should offer fairly similar performance.
