Berger Hybrid Quality Control Improvments

Just finished sorting a box of 500 Berger 6mm 105gr Hybrids, Lot #B074 and am very impressed with their overall consistency as compared to the previous lots of Hybrids I've sorted. If memory serves me correctly, I remember reading an article on changes Berger made to setting up their equipment which would result in better consistency. Measurements taken were:

Bearing surface: All within .002
Seating stem to ogive: All within .0015
Base to ogive: All within .002

When sorting I usually find 1-2 bullets in a box of 500 that are way out of spec. This box had none out of spec.

How they shoot is still yet to be determined.

We've seen QC issues with all the makers, including my beloved Berger.

Except for Nosler, we've also seen them all improve markedly over the past 10 years.

I just measured 2 boxes of the same bullet last night. Out of the 200 I had 11 with a reading over .002 on the high side and 28 over .0015 on the low side. I was surprised at the high number of "bad"(?) ones. Then, I measured 10 of the Sierra 107 grain bullets, (Gee, they have a super small hollow point) high and low measurement differences were in the .001 to .0015. I was surprised but, alas I couldn't get my 6-284 to shoot the Sierra's with the loads I tried. Oh well, I'll keep shooting the Berger's as they are still fine for my type of shooting.
