I'm looking for which Berger bullets have shot well from other's M1's. Especially looking for which 168grn bullets, but all info is welcome.

Thanks,

I shot 168 SMK. with IMR4350 and had good results. Cheaper.
I think you mean 4895. Might bend the Op rod with a slower powder like 4350. +1 on the 168mk and the 175 too

260,
what distance are you shooting this rifle at? and are you using it for garand matches, XTC, or plinking? for M1 matches 168 amaxs work well and are priced better. 110-125 nosler BT, or Vmax/blitzking, are great for reducing the load for young shooters or others that are wanting to avoid the recoil. but would recommend not going beyond the 300 line unless you have an "easy" wind tunnel type range. i have a couple of recipies if you are interested in them, send me a PM. 110 bergers look sexy too FWIW.
Cheers,
Doc.

Navyrad8r,

I am shooting a vintage rifle course that varies from 200 to 400. I have decided to go with the 168smk's that I've been shooting. Maybe I'll switch to the berger's at some point but don't really have any plans on it.
Thanks,

Great choice. 175 MK is another. Kevin Thomas told me load data can be interchanged if your not at max. If your not shooting past 400 I wouldn't bother with berg. Maybe try some 4064 with that. Good loading density. Don't go any slower or you might run into some timing issues. Good luck Lloyd

How about Varget and Hornady 168's? Bought some of the bullets and have been impressed with the powder. Anyone out there ever expiremented with either? What primers is everyone shooting? I've been using the old WLR's that I had on hand but wonder if there isn't a better primer.

Was wondering about how well does a garand shoot the 155 palma bullets? I am only considering this as I would like to be able to shoot to roughly the same poi as the greek 150grn rounds. Also with careful loading practices what can be expected of say a cmp special? I bought one for my dad and have been saving the brass that has tight primer pockets from a batch of 400 rounds as we shoot it. Many of the greek cases have very loose pockets when depriming.

Minesweeper,

I reloaded a bunch of 155 palma bullets for my M1, and found that I could not get the ogive anywhere near the lands due to the bullets design, this meant I was jumping them a long distance and they did not perform well, the same load with the bullets pulled out to twenty thousandths off the lands, and shot through a 1917eddystone, and a 1903A3, and '03 shot very well.

As far as reloading the Greek brass I have not had any experience with it, but I do know that you want to check weight and internal capacity, even on American man. brass. I have been reloading LC brass, and got three cases that had far less internal capacity. Two cases were LC one 43 and one 54, the other was TW 53. I usually sort the brass by headstamp, then by weight, but had not done so with the military brass as my loads are not near any high limits, and was more worried about holding a two minute angle. Now I sort. MY father(his M1 talked about below) uses new Winchester cases---he buys the brass and bullets for himself and as payment for him doing the reloading for me, when I was younger(about twenty years ago--some debts are never fully paid), I load for him now--and I sort the new Win cases by weight, and then load them over IMR4895 with 168SMK's.

As far as how your dad's CMP special will shoot...My father got a CMP $625 special and I shot a 100-4x with it at 200yrds, a 92-2x at 300yrds and (using a 300yrd target) shot a 92-0x at 400yrds--all scores were out of a possible 100. So the CMP specials can shoot perfect scores....(for my father's rifle it took finding a load that shot well which was the 168 class bullets with IMR4895 powder).
