Berger Bullet Test 108 grain BT ROCKS!

Here's the best group I shot today with the Prototype Berger 108 grain BT at 500 meters,547yards). The group measured a fantastic .870 inch! The worst group I shot today with the same bullet measured 1.752 inch which is none to shabby either.
I do think this new bullet is a winner.

Great group, very impressive. I felt that the new bullets would shoot good. What is the rifle and load info if you dont mind me asking.

Here's the rifle. It's a trued 40XB smithed by Clarence Hammonds, Tooley MBR, Jewell, 28 inch Kreiger #17 HV, .269 neck 6BR weighs 18.5 pounds
Badger Max 50 rings and base, Nightforce 12-42 NXS.

My son named it "Toxic" because he said the stock is the same color as the toxic chemicals the Joker Jack Nickleson fell into in Batman so the name "Toxic" was his idea.
Load is:

Berger 108BT .015 into the lands
neckturned Lapua
CCI450
30.5 grains of Varget, the usual disclaimer applies here)

Heck of a group Bob, for any rifle. We should compare notes since we're 15 miles apart. As you can see I shot that group off of Shippensburgs infamous wobbly benches. I've finally figured out this year how to shoot off of them. Only took me four or five years!
Shoot me an e-mail and we'll compare notes.

good shooting guy's conditions were favorable for bullet testing today for sure. The tests on the 108 are encouraging, thanks for posting your results.

Nice shooting guys, are you using 8 twist? And what kind of free bore setup is gonna be ideal for the 108's just curious?

Thanks

The group shot out of the 6mmAR,6mm Grendel) was with a 1:8" twist Hart barrel at 200 meters from an AR-15 we built. This looks like a great bullet for the 6mmAR.

Thanks for the compliments.
Yep, a Kreiger 8 twist. I don't think a nine would stabalize them.
As for the freebore I'm using a .104.
Here's some stats on the 108 BT

OAL of bullet: 1.225
Base to ogive: .712
Bearing length: .533
bullet weight: majority @ 108.08 grains on my MXX-123

Danny: good to talk to you again. If you remember I was a member of the Shippensburg club and shot in a couple of groundhog matches until I got back into national match shooting. I had great success with the Berger test bullets in both my 6mmAR and 6mmBR over the course guns. Best loads for the 6mmAR,grendel) were:
28.8g RL-15, 108 Berger test bullet, Rem. 7 1/2 Bench rest primer, Lapua brass, bullet set .0015 out of lands. .528"

6mmBR: 29.0g H4895, CCI 450 primer, 107 Berger test bullet, Lapua brass, bullet set .0010 out of lands, .633"

I am not sure what the original throat length was in the 6mmAR but I am sure you could find out from Robert Whitley at 6mmAR.com. The 6mmBR is an Eliseo tube gun set up with a Rem 700 trued action and Hart 25" barrel throated at .0100 with a .272 no turn neck.

Both barrels have a 1-8" twist, groups listed were shot at 200 Meters.

Bob,

All the bullets shot well for me, but the 108 was hands down the best performer. I had the chance to test the new lot #591 105VLD which is the lot since Eric polished the die out and it shot very well also. Best group being a 1.544 @ 500 meters which was shot in a 5-15 MPH wind.
I'm now anxious to find out which bullet they will select for production. If it's the 108 I'm going to order 3000 right from the git go. That's how impressed I am with that bullet!

I will be shooting the 107 & 108 bergers this weekend at the Williamsport 600yd match. So far the 108 has shot very good for me in my 6 x 47 lap,but the 1st group with the 107's was .175 4 shots at 100yd so I'm going to take them along for 600yd test. The new bullets didn't like in the lands?they shot better -.010 off.I'm using 4350 40.0 gr at 3075 in my kreigers. The 105bt shot decent but I keep loosing a shot in the string that I can't figure out.I'll play with them next week,if all goes well one of the new bullets 105bt,107bt,108bt will be shot at VA1000 next weekend.

Matt,

You know the deadline to submit your findings is June 15, which is this Friday. That was in Eric's original post asking for volunteers.
We need all the votes we can get for the 108's!

Good luck this weekend, and please report back with how they shot for you at 600.

Danny

The deadline had been exteneded.....

I'll get some testing done next couple days test at 600 maybe Saturday but be next weekend to see how ea does in a match.

I received a e-mail from Michelle at Berger stating the test will be extended until next weekend.I will post the results on monday.
