Berger Bullet Load Data

Lapua40X

California Hunter Education Instructor
I need manufacturers load data for .284 Winchester using RL17 with 180 grain Bergers.
I have several reloading manuals, none of which include that information. I'm certainly open to buying the Berger reloading manual but if it doesn't include that information I'd be wasting my shooting allowance. :'(
Does anyone have the manual? If you can tell me that the info. I need is in there I'll order the manual.

I have used RE-17 a lot, and it has been my experience that you can pretty much use the same loads as given for H-4350.
Start about 1/2 grain less than listed for H-4350, and work it on up.

berger has 4 different 180's..which one
what oal
what bbl length
coated or nekid
a 180 hy in a 28 bbl will max near 48of rl17 with a 2.8 oal using quick load..but i have no experience with 17.

Berger 180-VLD T&H, 180-BT, 180-Hybrid

Min Load <> 40.0 at 2435
Max Load <> 44.8 at 2649 (88% Fill)
Sorry to jump into this persons thread , but I am going to be using RL 17 myself with a 308 , lapua brass again with Berger 185,s otm or hybrids can you please give me the max and min for this ?

Thanks ... that's exactly where I started. Hodgdon doesn't list a recipe for anything for bullets over 175 grains and their load range for H-4350 runs 47 - 51.5 grains of powder.
Working in that range I found a 51.1 grain load of RL17 that performs extraordinarily well over 1K but I'm beginning to believe it's too hot.
I have sent an email to Berger asking for input. Will advise what I learn from them too.
Many thanks to you guys for sharing your reload software outputs with me. That helps a lot.

OAL is OAL. Not base to ogive. And that would only be a factor if you have the same free bore as "stool".

Yes, thanks. I should have entered both data points to prevent confusion.
My OAL (base to tip) runs 3.259; but I don't typically use base to tip data because there are so many differences in bullet lengths - I find using ogive as a data point gives me much greater consistency for load comparison using the Hornady (Stoney Point) OAL gauge.

with the 3.259 oal you maybe able to break 52gr.....
quickload says 52.4/2865fps...
but again i have not used rl17 and do not know how close the real world is to ql in this set up

I would stay away from RL 17 in .284win fellows where blowing primers on a hot day shooting 900m and where having elevation problems they all switched back to 4831 less speed but not temperature sensitive like Rl17
And rl 17 is a double base powder and hard on your throats

My Berger book shows start load at 40.0 approx. vel = 2435
max load 44.8 @ 2649 88% fill ratio
Shows for all 180 gr berger bullets.

Don't know if this helps...got it from reloaders nest. As said by others be careful.
