berger 95grain VLD/243 win

Anybody have experience with these bullets?
How is expansion for hunting past 400 yards?
Ive heard they have a very short bearing surface and am wondering if I will have enough room to get to the lands in a normal throated 243 win match chamber and still have solid seating depth.

I tried them in my Sako .243, and I could not stabilize them. I went up to a max load of H4350 and beyond a bit with my limited supply of bullets and got 3+" groups at 200m with slight keyholing. FWIW, the 88 and 90 gr Bergers have shot 3/4" groups and better at 200m. According to a third party, my twist is 1:9.5"; however, I have not measured it myself to verify this.

I guess you want to use RL 22, H4831sc or H1000 you may get enough velocity to overcome a marginal twist if you have slower than a 1:9" twist. Other bullets shoot too well for me to burn up barrel playing with marginally stable bullets.

I dont have my barrel in hand yet but it is supposed to be an 28" 8 twist so I should be able to stabilize them easily. I do not know how long the throat will be. I also read they dont like to be pushed past 3100fps? I just dont want to order 300 bullets that that I end up not using.

I use them in my savage 243 and they work great. I have shot a few whitetail deer with them with the furthest being 326yrds any they have passed through every time with about a 2.5" exit. I have also shot a coyote at 540yrds with a complete lengthwise pass through with a 1" exit the coyote never got up. My savage shoots consistant 1/2" groups at 200 yards with these bullets.

I also use the berger 95g VLDs in my Blaser 243 which has a 1 in 10 twist barrel, best groups to date in my stick. paul.
